you guys should check out a youtube channel called LAHWF and this guy does these pranks, including this where he makes people feel really awkward.
Very entertaining :)

I'm Canadian from Montreal, I moved to Boston 2 months ago for work. I actually think people are more polite here. When I hold the door, usually people say thank you. Maybe because here it's not expected, I'm not sure.

i once opened a door for my teacher who was at the other end of the corridor but when i realised it was awkward as fuck it was to late to abort...

Sometimes, when a person holding a door for me from far away, I try to make visual contact to him while smiling and say thank you when entering the door. Then I realize I'm not supposed to going there and find other way to my destination so I don't have to feel awkward when meet the person again

It's amazing how many Canadians don't do this. This may sound stupid but I live my life based on Karma. I do as much good things in the run of a day as I can, and in turn, many good things happen to me. Simple things such as holding doors, giving people breaks in traffic, or giving my change to the person behind me in the drive thru. Trust me, this shit works, and if everyone did it this world would be a much better place. It may take an extra 15 seconds out of your busy day to do something nice, so do it.
TL;DR Be nice, and nice things will happen to you.

When i was little and my mom and sister would be trying on clothes at the mall, (and after my gameboy battery had died and i'd finished reading my book) i'd go to the front door and open it for strangers. I would get tips from people who would go on to compliment my manners or some such. Once or twice i even got candy from strangers!

i like to hold it at ridiculous distances because it makes people walk faster then walk away and let it close right before they get there . . . they look goofy

I once held the door open for so long at the mall that people asked if I was the new doorman.
