It's not the fact that we thing "good music" doesn't exist anymore. It's the fact that absolute **** like Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, etc have dominated the mainstream music media, forcing good music out and replacing it with simple, ****** beats and shallow repetitive lyrics.

Still, not all mainstream music are bad. Plus it depends on opinion. Even though Nicki Minaj's music may be ****, there's probably someone out there who will defend her music. And stuff like Lady Gaga and Coldplay. They are mainstream, but not all bad.

......Why should you care what dominates the media? Why not ignore what you think is ****** music and just enjoy what you like. I like Kanye West and I get red thumbs on here and people telling how much of an asshole he is but do I give a ****? No

Exactly, but they still seem to push out the same **** over the years and it continues to flood the mainstream.

You literally just reaffirmed my point

if you disregard the **** you are left with the (subjectively) true good music. they are not gonna give you good music on a ******* silver platter, you have to look for it. it's like browsing the internet. you can't just throw stones at it yelling "entertain me!"

All these people hate today's music, but they like old music. But back when today's old music was today's music people felt the same way.
someone in 1960 "UGH BACK IN MY DAY MUSIC DIDN'T HAVE LYRICS, DAMN HIPPIES. THIS IS TRASH!"
someone in 1970 "UGH BACK IN MY DAY MUSIC WAS ABOUT PEACE AND WAR, WHAT IS THIS DISCO **** AND ALL THIS NEW ROCK TRASH."
someone in 1980 "UGH BACK IN MY DAY MUSIC HAD MEANING AND TOOK TALENT, NOT ALL THIS COMPUTER GENERATED ****."
someone in 1990 "80's music sucked. this is ok"
and then in 10 years when there's a new genre of music all these people will be going "WHAT HAPPENED TO PEOPLE LIKE NICKI MINAJ, AND BEYONCE, CHRIS BROWN. THE GOOD MUSIC, but not one direction. no one loves one direction. (people will hate one direction because future hitler won't go after jews, he'll go after one directioners)"
And I'm sure in a decade they'll have the same posts about their current music.

i always thought that if the Beatles were around today, they would receive about the same hate as one direction. There would be endless amounts of commenters saying, "there's no meaning in the lyrics 'she loves you yeah yeah yeah' or 'naaa naaa na nananana nanana hey Jude' it's just catchy hooks to get the song in your head". I mean you only have to look at their live shows to see they have the same audience! Screaming teenagers who's ginys tickle. I asked my grandad once what he thought of them and he said that their music is simple, catchy pop and nothing more.

I'm looking forward to music snobs coming along and telling me how Lennon was a martyr to music or that Ringo is the best drummer that ever lived. The Beatles were good but nostalgia has the effect of making something good into something near perfection. in 2040 there will be people telling kids that Kanye West was as good as he thinks he is now. And kids will ignore them and continue to listen to the next pubescent heartthrob, and a minority will say that Gold digger was the song of a generation. By that point there will be religions dedicated to the Sgt Peppers album

TLDR; Enjoy the music you like and ignore that you don't, and don't be a ******* music snob, everyone hates those people.

No one is gonna tell you that Ringo was the best drummer to ever live. Because he wasn't. He kind of sucked actually.

I liked your post, it sounds very true, but what I liked most about it was when it came 80s musics turn for someone to defend it, it got **** on instead. I can appreciate this because I had to live through the nightmare, I would never say it was great with any nostalgia. There was a band or two every here and there that didn't suck but it wasn't until very late in the decade to the early 90s that people finally said enough that **** sucks lets have something different. It happens every so often as well so don't worry, the music will change but odds are you won't enjoy it as much as you enjoyed that band you have that you have listened to 1000 times, and often times the new stuff you'll hate. Anyway, I ranted, I feel like this picture now.

I think everyone should be required to play music in school, or at least study musical theory. It's amazing what kind of understanding of what true music is when you actually play it and understand it.

<Been playing that for 12 years now. I know what I'm talking about.
