That was a society that had problems (rampant drug dependance, hypersexualisation, destruction of community, genetic caste system) but just refused to acknowledge them. I once read a comic set in a utopia - or if not a utopia, a really wonderful future - where a woman was dealing with her father's illness and death. Pain and sadness will still exist even in the most perfect society because anyone who loves someone else is always open to heartache. That's what being human means. So I don't think we need to worry about losing our motivation, we just need to try to make a better world than we have now.
