Russian is taught in Most Schools in Eastern Europe, I learned a bit, growing up in Yugoslavia.

I guess if you went anywhere east of Germany, and north of China, you could speak it and most people would understand.

If you want my opinion, those are all good choices. You will learn a lot about Englisch from taking German, and Spanish is pretty easy for native Englisch speakers. Russian is a completely different thing, and you should only try that if you are prepared to know more about languages than anything else.

It could just be the way the schools teach it. If you use Rosetta Stone or something you can probably learn it a lot faster

1st - Norwegian, fluent. I suck at it after living in USA for 4 years.
2nd - English, fluent. I won a lot of spelling bees and beat the high score on an english test in my 4 years in USA
3rd - New Norwegian, a shitty kind of norwegian.
4th - spanish - ok, but i lack some words.
(5th - swedish, i understand it perfectly but cant speak)

1st - Norwegian, fluent (Nordmenn er overmenneskelige og fantastiske)
2nd - English, fluent (internet and myself taught me, insted of my shitty English teachers)
3rd - New Norwegian, somewhat fluent (collection of dialects, kinda fucked up)
4th - German (School. I had to choose it, suck at it though)
5th - Piglatin
6th - Understanding of Danish, Swedish and some the different types of English
7th - Know a few Finnish and Japanese words.

1st - Czech, fluent. Pretty much normal to speak your native language fluently.
2nd - English, fluent and quite good with grammar. At age of fifteen I got my FCE certificate curently going for CAE certificate.
3rd - Spanish, curently learning.

1st: American English+enough of a hidden southern accent that I can make English people rage on command
2nd: Russian (Enough to appear fluent if I've got a dictionary on hand and can carry a conversation at preschool level)
3rd: French (Shit was mandatory in elementary school, I only remember enough to make things confusing when I'm looking for a Russian term)

1st - English (fluent)
2nd - Japanese (haven't used regularly since I was 7, not too great these days)
3rd - Chinese (same deal as above)
4th - French (forced to learn in school, damn it Canada)

Basically I can only SPEAK english.
