Man vs. Animal, you always root for the animal, especially if the animal is guarded by three Africans with assault rifles.

you mean when the animal protects an endangered white rhino

Being an armed rhino bodyguard must be the weirdest job.

99% of the time just bored out of your mind walking around in the boiling sun.

1% of the time intense gun battle which you may not survive being possibley surrounded and not initially knowing where the enemy is without cover in the plain open grassland with a mission of keeping the rhino alive at all costs.

User avatar #26 to #16 - muddywaters (09/24/2012) [-]
They cut them off to prevent poachers from killing them, the rhino is worthless with out it.
User avatar #41 to #26 - kingbrowser (09/24/2012) [-]
If they are worthless without the horn, than why is it being protected by armed guards? I would assume the rhino's skin would be valuable as it is so rare, like for taxidermy purposes for instance.
#98 to #41 - xrabiddonutz (09/24/2012) [-]
I'm pretty sure they might want to kill it because it's one of the 4 left in the world, and they protect it in hopes it will be able to breed with another white rhino
User avatar #167 to #98 - fernand (09/24/2012) [-]
Thats what kills off species. The resulting offspring, IF one could be conceived, would be born with defects. The bible says that God said "divide and multiply" and even Darwinism shows that species that mix with other species within their genus tend to have better offspring. Stronger, faster, the works...
Case and point, the liger.
Another case and point, look what happens when humans inbreed.

You sound like you're debating. Stop that, it's out of place here.

What you're saying is right, if there isn't enough animals - the only breeding option for children is their parents or their kin - which results in serious deformities that kill the species. What this picture doesn't say is that they're a few hundred left in captivity. The reason the four are protected is because they are the last left accustomed to the wild.
#212 to #167 - onceapiece (09/24/2012) [-]
Dude, that's incredibly stupid. You're saying that the offspring would kill off the species? you do realize that if they didn't have and babies, the entire race wouldn't even stand a chance right?

It's definitely true that inbreeding results in deformities, which is why I didn't thumb him down. However, It is not true that having them breed would be bad for their species. It is also widely accepted that the definition of a species is that the organisms can breed with each other. Darwinism also doesn't really show animals mixing with other animals in their genus, because only specific animals can breed with another outside of their species, and even then it's fertile so it's no use. Sure in-breeding isn't a great option, but in this case it's the best. Well, was the best until you told me that there are 100 or so besides those 4.

It's a northern white rhino. The southern white rhinos have thousands of individuals in the wild where as the northern white rhinos have (last I checked) 17 individuals in the wild.

So, an old white guy guarded by a bunch of black guys willing to sacrifice their lives for the white guy.

Sounds about right.
