I don't know how the US industry works, but in Norway you actually have to apply for a ''porn licence'' in order to be in that type of business. Some of the requirements include that you are mentally healthy and aren't doing it for the wrong reasons (like revenge on dads/boyfriends etc.).

As the other replies have or will state, I think a career in porn would result in a lot of negative things than positive, even with a lot of money. I'm not too sure about the guys, but I bet tons of people look down on the girls. No one knows how she must really feel. She needs love and respect, too, but she won't get it. Not easily at least.

"Better lives" is subjective. I worked hard in school and college to get a great job that I enjoy. I have a feeling of accomplishment and self worth, and I make a good living. I'm not a woman getting railed by dozens/hundreds of guys every year for horny men to touch themselves to, but personally I'd feel a little bit "empty" inside. Ironic, no?
