OP is right, except for the fact to get a larger root, or in this case a carrot. A larger plant area produces more photosynthesis, which would in turn be able to produce a larger carrot, because the carrot is the extra stored energy for carrots.
Does no one here know that rabbits actually eat the leaves, not the root? Bugs Bunny was a lying bastard.
