If a "hermaphrodite" cannot bear children, then it is not truly a hermaphrodite. The whole point of hermaphrodism (I don't think that's the proper term, but whatever) is that each member of the population can reproduce regardless of whatever role the opposite is; they can both get pregnant, and they can both impregnate. If it can not become pregnant, then it is not a true hermaphrodite.
