Same logic as women who dress like sluts and are looking for a "nice guy" to notice them but not for their body. If you don't want people to assume things don't act and dress like the stereotype. If i'm getting straight a's in school I'm not going there dressed like a drug dealing thug or someone who's about to drop out.

Hey Dumb-asses,
My name is John, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are fat, retarded, no-lifes who spend every second of their day dressing casual. You are everything bad in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever gotten any A's? I mean, I guess it’s fun not paying attention in class and getting tattoos, but you all take to a whole new level. This is even worse than having fun and expressing yourself.
Don’t be a stranger. Just hit me with your best shot. I’m pretty much perfect. I was captain of the football team, and starter on my basketball team. What sports do you play, other than “jack off to naked drawn Japanese people”? I also get straight A’s, and have a banging smart girlfriend (She just blew me; Shit was SO cash). You are all dumbass, drugdealing school dropouts who should just kill yourselves. Thanks for listening.

.... you are retarded. People should be able to act and dress however they feel like, without narrow-minded faggots like you judging them for something as completely irrelevant to moral character and personality as appearance. Go fuck yourself with the Empire State Building. Then jump off.
That doesn't mean you have to outwardly express your judgment in a completely rude way, like jeroylenkins. Try and understand that people have reasons for their appearances, and if you really want to judge them, get to know them first instead of being a presumptuous asshole.
He didn't even say it in a completely horrible, rude away. He's just saying what everyone is thinking.
For God's sakes, we're on funnyjunk. A site where most of the content is crude, racist, sexist, etc. And I've seen COUNTLESS comments talking about girls dressing like whores and the like.
I'm sorry, but no one can say they haven't judged someone by what they're wearing. It's going a little overboard calling us "presumptuous assholes". Get off your damn high horse.
Oh, I see a man covered in tattoos and countless piercings. My brain automatically connects him to being a rebel because that's normally the stereotype. I'm not going to sit there and contemplate on all the great things he could be contributing to society.
But what an asshole I must be.

"We're on funnyjunk" isn't really a good comeback. People have civilized arguments on here, just not every single time a controversial topic arises. The main reason I'm arguing with you is because you're telling people to "stop acting like a white knight" and "get off your high horse," while you're just as stubbornly convinced that your opinions are the one and only truth. Don't be such a hypocrite. Yes, nobody can honestly say they haven't judged someone else for their appearance. So what? You don't have to glorify that person just to go against your assumptions, but you also don't have to force all your negative preconceptions on them. At least take the stereotypes with a grain of salt.
I don't think I'm being a white knight nor am I on a high horse considering I'm not trying to act as if I am pure in my judgements of others. I'm not saying that to you because you're being arrogant. I'm saying that to you because you aren't being realistic.
Nor am I "forcig all my negative preconceptions on them". I don't take the time to talk to everyone I see and we all make judgements on people we only glance at. I would never be rude to someone because of a stereotype. If the opportunity arose to get to know them, I would.
My point is that EVERYONE judges people based off of stereotypes whether they want to admit to it or not. I'm not saying that everyone shuns people with "negative stereotypes". Judgements happen- it's part of being human. In our society, it's close to impossible not to. You do it too, you're just not being honest.

Yes, I agree with most of that. I don't think it's unrealistic to try and get people to resist the urge to make judgments based solely on stereotypes, though. Of course a certain degree of judgment happens, but it's easy to draw the line somewhere. I was thinking more along the lines of people who you see more than once, but what's so hard about at least trying to partially form your own opinions of people in place of mindlessly stereotyping? Also, I was never trying to deny that I judge people by their looks to an extent, too. There's no doubt about that, it just wasn't germane to the point I'm trying to make.
Sure, it's easy to take an extremely cynical, down-to-earth approach to this issue. On the other hand, in this day and age where equal rights are becoming more of a concern in a lot of social groups (cough cough, homos), it doesn't seem like such a bad idea to try and take small steps away from impulsive stereotyping.

I'm just saying, how you portray yourself casts the first impression on everybody in the world. Naturally, most people wouldn't see the tattooed guy in the picture above and think "I bet he would be a nice, smart young man if I got to know him." They think he is what he dresses like, either a normal dude who likes tattoos or a douche who wears cutoff tees to show them off. Don't act like you don't do it too, if you think everyone you see has an equal chance of being a good person (or what you consider that to be) no matter what they look like you would just be lying to yourself.
Sorry for the long paragraph

There's also no saying they're all "bad people." Maybe people get tattoos to channel their negative emotions, or dress in a particular way so as to feel more confident about themselves. Regardless of your asinine first impressions, you shouldn't judge a person purely on their looks. Give everyone a chance, or else you're just another narrow-minded asshat.
