I live in Canada and I have never once heard someone say "aboot". If anything, it sounds closer to "aboat".

dude, I talk to americans all the time. not once have i ever had anyone tell me i have an accent. america and canada sound exactly alike unless you were raised to speak french in quebec. thats really the only place with an accent.

I watch a lot of american television, after a while I started to notice some differences. Like some Canadians (including myself) would pronounce words like car or garbage as cr and grrbage, skipping the letter a after the r.
