communism/marxism can't work! why would anyone choose to go to school and end up with the same salary as a trashcarier? he would get less money in the years he wents to school (pluss the money for the school if it wasn't free) and he would get a harder job (pluss the education is hard). I agree to that there should be more equally salaries, but the guys with a hard education and a hard job should earn more then in the "easy" jobs where you don't need any education etc.

I didn't say an ideal communist society would work, I'm just saying it is absolutely possible if the people wanted it bad enough, but they don't so it won't happen. Also in places like poland you couldn't choose your profession.

I had to totally simplify the numbers because people on this site have the attention span of a goldfish. As a student working his way through college, his deductions basically counter any money he'd be paying in taxes. You get a refund on 100% of your first $1000 and 50% of the next $1000. When he writes off his tuition and school related items he would effectively be paying no taxes.

If we have the attention span of goldfish, i suggest that you leave us creatures of lower intelligence be and find a crowd more suited to your high intellectual standards. What would have been a far more convincing argument on his part would be to reference capital gains tax. I know of an elderly widow who collects almost $100,000/year in dividends from stocks purchased by her father and husband. Because these dividends are considered eligible under the Tax Increase Prevention and Reconciliation Act, this woman pays a whopping 0% on her earnings. Here is a woman who has not worked a day in her life, and she is able to live on dividends without paying a cent to the government.

I am a college student, claimed as a dependent by my parents, and I work a full time job (45 hrs/week) during the summer and winter. I have no problem paying my fair share of taxes, and I don't believe that my rate is too high. I do however feel quite cheated when certain people can be rich as hell and still leech off the system while folks like me bust their collective asses and pay fair taxes.

Certainly the rich aren't the only ones ripping off the rest of America (i.e. those who misuse welfare), but it is worth noting that there are changes to be made at every level. I wouldn't go as far as to say that Mr. Romney "cheated" the rest of America, since he did not attempt to evade any taxes illegally. However, the fact of the matter is that under the system, folks like Romney were able to get away with paying 10-15% on their massive incomes. Moving money to offshore bank accounts certainly doesn't do the American people any good either. So while Mr. Romney did not do anything illegal, he is just one of the people out there who have more money than they know what to do with, and still utilize loopholes and special rules in the tax code to pay less than they should. I cannot support someone with such little regard for the typical taxpayer, or such little confidence in America.

i work minimum wage, every week i calculate how much money i loose to taxes, i allow the goverment to take the standard amounts, my moms an accountant so i figure ill just have her help me at the end of the year when i do taxes, i dont claim myself on my own taxes so 100% of what i owe is take....and after all that all i loose is 18%, idk where the rest of you live but i live in Maryland which happens to be Democratic state, which means taxes tend to be high (now i dont know this for fact because ive never moved out of state so i dont worry about other states as of right now in my life) so idk what you are smoking but 18% is not anywhere close to 50%. also the people at my work that do claim themselves only pay about 10%.
