You don't use the majority of what you learn in school later in life, and pretty much all that you do use, is relearned in college. Along with that, you get paid for working, so it feels rewarding. And 99% of kids don't think school feels rewarding. They dislike it.

I sure didn't love school as a teenager.
But I accepted as a necessary evil that has to be done in order to achieve my life goals, like getting a nice career.

Anyone who is old enough to use Funnyjunk, SHOULD also be mature enough to understand that if you don't wanna work for MacDonald's for all your life, school and homework are useful.

And even if we forget everything I just said, the fact remains that there is a whiny little cunt complaining about having homework after 7 hours in school...

I'm taking 18 credits this semester at college and I work part-time, and I'm one of the lucky ones. Plenty of kids are working full-time while being a full-time student.

None of us have the time to deal with homework.

You must live in a really weird area if you have most of the people regularly working 16 hour days "just to get by". I don't think I've met anyone who works 16 hour days. Hell, I only know a few people who have worked even a single 16 hour day, and they were convenience store cashiers who had to work the extra hours because someone else called in sick.

As a full time college student and part time worker, I can honestly say that highschool was by far the worst years of my life.

I'll be honest, I did secondary school (High school) and College and University and worked part time during and now work full time, roughly 10 hours per day, 5 days a week and a 6 hour day on Saturday bi-monthly. I would love to go back to being a teenager at school, the easiest days of my life, even though I did not know it then. School was 9-3:30 and work is 7-6...

And I can honestly say that we've all had different highschool/college/work experiences.

Highschool, for me at least, sucked. Teachers hated me cause I never paid attention (the learning curve was more like a flat line for me). Students hated me cause I was a forever alone guy. Parents disliked me because when I came home from class exhausted they thought I was just being lazy (cause highschool requires no effort at all or something /sarcasm).

Honestly, I cannot recall a single fond memory of highschool. Not a single damn one. I am so glad it's over. If I got sent back in time and had to take highschool again, I would threaten to shoot the place up just so they would haul me to jail, because that would be better than highschool.

Although, highschool wasn't entirely useless. I did learn how to deal with menial tasks and how to deal with people who give me shit all the time. Makes it really easy to maintain composure when I get an irate customer at my register.

I didn't say most people. I live in a pretty sheltered community, most people I know make a decent living and work around 10 hours a day. But bitching about 7 hour schooldays is retarded. I hated high school too, but I never complained about the pathetically small amount of work I had to put into it.

You must have had a far different highschool experience than me. I had 7 hours a day (7:30 to 2:30) with a half hour break for lunch (the ten minutes in between classes doesn't count cause I had to use those to prepare for my next class). I also had a one hour "study hall" time, which wasn't much of a break because if we weren't using it to do homework, we basically had to just sit there quietly and stare at the wall (some teachers would break the rules a bit and allow headphones, but most didn't). In addition to that, I regularly had two hours of homework a night, which brings the total time spent 'working' up to 8 hours (-30 minutes each for lunch and study hall). You may notice that this is the equivalent of a full time job, and it honestly felt like one.

On top of that, I was dealing with bullshit from the teachers (got suspended for plagiarism even though I never actually plagiarized. Long story.), and from all the adults, who refused to acknowledge that 8 hours of school a day was anything but "free time" and expected me to be able to do a ton more chores on top of that (I didn't get my first real job until college). I didn't watch T.V. as a kid not because I didn't care for it, but because I literally had no time to do so.

Highschool sucked. I cannot wait until I get to "real life" and can relax knowing that I will be doing less work than I was in highschool and will be getting paid for it. Really, if you can make it through highschool without rage-quitting, you can easily survive real life.

People like you make me wonder if highschool before 1995 was radically different or if highschool even existed at all.

Well, my high school was 8:00 to 3:00 most days (give or take an hour). 6 days a week, school ended at 1 on fridays. We had a 15 minute brunch and a 20 minute lunch, and 5 minutes between each class.

I took the biggest number of classes I could, the hardest ones there were in math, physics, programming, etc. I never had much trouble with any of it. When I could, I slept through my classes and then studied 2 weeks' worth of material in an hour at home, and used the extra time to play videogames. So I pretty much spent 5-6 hours a night for sleep, a few hours a month to learn the material, and the rest was free time.

Most teachers didn't really care about me because I was quiet (sleeping) in the back of the class, and they had other shit to deal with, and my tests were always good.

School was boring and full of stupid and annoying people, and the only thing that was difficult about it was going there every day knowing I'm wasting my time.

I didn't go to high school so long ago. From your reply I'm guessing you're doing a BA now and that we're roughly the same age.

My country is supposed to be pretty good in terms of education, and my school was supposed to be one of the better ones in the country, which frankly I find hard to believe. But yeah. That was my high school experience.

Well, I would have done what you did, except my teachers were very strict. You were not allowed to sleep in class or anything. Even if all my tests were 100%, if I fell asleep in class or didn't take notes I got a detention. So highschool was mind-numbingly boring for me.

Plus, all the homework was graded, so I had to do it or I would get bad grades (and more detentions), even though I already had the material down perfectly.

And no, I'm working towards an associates degree, but I am in my fourth year of college (another long story).

Yea, still sounds a bit better than the 12 hours a day, 6 days a week I'm doing now.

Is that a job or school? Personally, I would rather work than be in a class, even if it was for a longer time, cause then I would at least be getting paid. All I got for 40 hours of school a week was a menial education, plus learning how to deal with people who don't give a shit.

When I was a student, I used to go to work at 5am.
From there I went to school whenever it started.
After school I usually went back to work.
On average I got home at about 7pm.
I also worked on saturdays.

I once counted that I spent about 65-70 hours a week at work and school.

But 7 hours AND homework. Fuck, that must be horrible!!
