I deduced that the answer is in fact x= 6/7, due to the fact the first term is x multiplied by 2, not x^2.

x2 + 6x + 9 = x + 3
(x+3)(x+3) = (x+3)
1(x+3) = 1
x + 3 = 1
x = 2
(x+3)(x+3) = (x+3)
1(x+3) = 1
x + 3 = 1
x = 2
