it is a status ailment that doubles the effort values a pokemon earns in battle. for competitive play it is useful since it saves a bit of time raising said values.

I first got it when I was a kid playing red, Nurse joy told me while I was at mt. moon.. I thought that my pokemon had got a disease.. then it infected the others.. I was so sad cuz I thought I had to release them.. Turns out it's this stat boosting thing that's really rare. Only had it once, In Red version.
