Ugly people will often find average looking 'stars' (for want of a better word) attractive, because they have a fantasy that if the 'star' met them they might 'have a chance'. Whereas, if they met a beautiful 'star', they know that they wouldn't have any chance at all.
To use a simple system out of 10 - that girl is maybe a 6, she appeals to the fantasies of men who themselves score 4 and below.
That is all.
