I know a guy who has a $600 pair of beats he uses as jewelry.

Seriously I noticed that most of the kids in my school just wear them around their necks, not even plugged in might I add, for the sole purpose of showing them off.

I have beats and i just use em for listening to shit. Wearing it as jewelry is a waste.

I have beats earbuds and the right earbud broke after 2 weeks. Just got them replaced 2 days ago and the right earbud fucking cut out already. If you are reading this comment and thinking about getting beats dont fucking get em im going to get a refund so i can buy headphones 2x as good at half the price

Buy the Solos. They're a little small on the ears, but I might just have big ears. Regardless, I've had them for almost a year now and they work like they just came out of the box. I didn't buy earbuds specifically because they get crushed and break more often. Although I doubt you're going to go buy another pair of Beats. But if you do, don't get buds.

I bought Beats with my birthday money, I use them for music and League of Legends. They never leave my house.

Beats are overpriced yes, and I will never own a pair. But do you not understand they can't listen to music at school and or maybe don't feel like listening to music at that current moment? Well I own a pair and wear them around my neck all the time too... to be honest I kinda bought them to fit in (also I was in need of headphones at the moment) but my school lets us use our cellphones and whatnot as long as we're not using them in class while the teachers are talking cuz c'mon, it's common sense :/

Altough MP3 128KB quality sounds 'good', lots of high and low pitches are 'removed' from the audio file to compress it, this will result into muzzled bass or other beat sounds. So the quality of the audio will be exactly the same from a 10 dollar headset to a 200 dollar headset (or headphones for that matter).

If you listen to FLAC however (not all mobile devices can play that audio file) you can definetly hear the difference in audio quality. But Beats still has the same specs as a 50 dollar sennheiser or bose headset.

I'm not too picky when it comes to music quality, as long as it doesn't sound like it was recorded with a potato, then i don't mind too much, any headphones will do

You don't need to listen to anything higher than 128KB or 256KB mp3 files since those are good enough while walking/cycling and/or when there are ambient sounds penetrating your headphones like other cars, wind and such, my point was just that people buy these ridiculous overpriced headsets and will never use them to their full potential.

Beats creates these headphones in china for just a few cents, imports them for a few dollars and sells them for way too much.

For my own purpose of using songs, which is in this case DJing, I try to get songs in .wav format or MP3 320 kbps. Are those the best quality formats out there, or do you recommend FLAC? I've never head a song in FLAC format before, but I guess if it is that good I will use it. Blasting crap quality songs won't appeal to the audience...

Try it and you will be stunned. Just 'normal' rock bands and such won't really make that much of a difference (unless they use a lot of unique notes like metal solo's), but trance/dance/electro and such can be way more 'pure' than mp3.

My nephew is also a 'dj' of some sorts (gets paid to play at high school parties) and he never heard of FLAC before, so I recommended it to him and now he buys only FLAC music, And if he can't buy it in FLAC, he will buy the CD and Download the FLAC album.

Be aware that a FLAC file can easily hit 6 to 20 MB per song.

im listening with DIY overnight sensations, through Aune usb dac and Dayton DTA-100 amp, this is my work desk setup (pic), at home i have diy Troels gravesen designed 3 way classics through a Benchmark Media DAC1 Pre, Emotiva XPA-2, Boozehound labs phono pre, and a pioneed PL-540 with ortofon blue cartrige. AKG-K701 headphones.

Bose uses booste mids to trick people who are used to listening to lots of bass and treble that theirs is different and better. when in truth they have non flat response curves and poor imaging.

But sound is all taste and by all means buy what sounds good to you.

I find that good DIY speaker designs are similar to comercial designs that cost 3-5 times more money.

Emotiva audio equipment is about the best bang for the buck i've found; american company, chinese made, all good, would not hesitate on any of their products

OK, I've had M-Audio BX8a's for the past 5 years as studio monitors, and these look interesting. Do the Overnight Sensations have a flat frequency response/high accuracy, or are they just good for recreational listening?

i wouldn't mix with them, they definitely have a colored sound. Paul tunes his crossovers for listening pleasure rather than perfect flat response. See graph- these are actually very good given the low cost of the drivers. I dont know what your speakers sound like so i cant compare. they Overnight sensations make great desk or bedroom/small HT speakers. they jsut wont get loud enough to fill a big living room. the overnight sensation MTM's might, or i would go up to Paul's Swope series.
