a barrel roll is like the aileron roll except you're moving up/down and left/right.

You get a red thumb because your explanation is in correct. The plane is heading left and slightly at us, and the white line at the very beginning shows that it is at the bottom of the cylinder. Ah, i see i fell prey to the optical illusion here, thinking along the lines of how a plane flies, it is more logical that the black line represents the close side of the cylinder. Due to my background in drafting, i tend to read more into the lines of a drawing, and how they interact with the subject matter at hand.
