I thought this was hilarious but..
I've gotten a lot of shit on the Internet for being Christian so I was hoping you could hear me out....
Not all Christians protest on the street with ridiculous demands and forcing their beliefs on others, with backward views, I like to call them "retarded Christians".
There are people like me that mostly keep to themselves and have a more modern approach to th religion.
-I believe in evolution
-I take science seriously and believe about the origins of the earth and universe
-I believe that god works using a "domino affect"
-I I believe most of the bible is a metaphor, and is more for morals sake
- I believe anyone can enter heaven no mater what believe as long as they have lived good lives
-for example of the bible being a metaphor, the earth being made in "seven days" really means seven periods of time leading up to when humans were created from evolution
Now, I guess you could say well, with all this what's the point in believe in a higher power? Well I guess it's because of why are we here? What's the point in the universe, why would the big bang just happen and if there if there is no life form created to perseve the universe, what's really the point in it all being here?
I'm not here to convert, but trying to prove that "modern Christians" don't have completly ridiculous believes, and more just want something to hold on to, and something to give them reason for being alive. Because if its really just darkness and nothing when you die, there's really no point in it all, if all life in the univers suddenly vanished, there would then just be no point in all we as a race have worked for.
I am probably going to regret not posting this as anonymous.....

In all honesty I don't know. It's a hard question to answer.
However it's been close to 2000 years since it happened (if it did) and people still mention it and talk about it. It could have initially been so that we remember and try not to make the same mistakes again.

You know, I agree with you. However; we've come to an age where "seeing is believing" and honestly 9/10 the visions people had they were just accused of being high out of their mind or just under the influence. We've removed the realms of possibility and fact now has become "do or die". I don't entirely blame the Atheists; the Church has fucked the meaning of religion since the first time Constantinople was Established. We've gone backwards instead of forward and we began developing all they "types of Christianity" that it honestly confuses the fuck out of me too. I mean go to America you got "protestant" or some other fucking bullshit. Because of the Church and because of peoples extreme values (not even based on experience and intuition) all we've got is a religious cluster-fuck. I laugh at Jews, Christians, and Muslims; they don't realize we all have the same God. They don't realize the stories tie in. You wanna know the difference between a Christian and a Muslim? Muslims didn't see Jesus Crucified. Jesus is mentioned more times in the Qur'aan than Muhammed.
The reason why some people hate religious is because a) Ignorance (sorry but there is SOME people in the Atheist community who are pretty fucking ignorant. b) Feel like the church is a rip off and because the church lied about a lot of things they simply lost value in religion c) "Seeing is believing"- this has become the main doctrine of Atheism and with good reason too.
Something believers and non-believers need to understand is that at the end of the fucking day; we're all human. We can throw science at religion all we want; we're still human at the end of the day. Redundant right? It's because it's true. As a believer I will just simply say this; I don't mind if there is no heaven or hell after this life. If it's the void I'll be entering that's fine by me. I'm open to both ends. Just because we want purpose in our lives and we fear that there may be none; it doesn't mean we shouldn't live our best

Fun fact: if you counted each sect of Christianity as a separate religion, atheists would be the majority.
Though the way the different sects of Christianity treat each other, they might as well be separate religions. My girlfriend's mom won't talk to her dad's extended family because she's Catholic and they're Baptists. She's not a very open-minded person.

^This all the way
You pretty much summed up my belief.
I use Christianity more as a guideline to live in a ethically and socially correct way.
I never take what the bible says literally.
It's the person's choice of what they want to believe, and I respect that.

Well if you believe in evolution, the origins of the earth and universe, and that the bible is a metaphor, that is something completely different than a normal Christian believes in. And that a "modern Christian" dont have ridiculous believes, the fact that as humans people look for a god or something omnipotent is pretty ridiculous. Humans don't know shit about the afterlife, we just look for the person with the answer to everything. Even the bible was translated from ancient hebrew which nobody knows the correct language. Not bashing just saying.
What I'm trying to say is, if all life in the universe suddenly vanished, what would be the point in the universe if there was nothing in it.
I believe we as humans and what ever other life form in this universe were made intentionally to give the universe meaning and purpose
But that's fine, I'm not trying to make you believe in religion, I'm just trying to make Sense in what I believe in

I do know a lot of Christians who aren't d-bags. It sucks because there are the jerks who give you guys a bad name, protesting funerals or whatever stupid shit for attention. It's kind of the same with Athiests. You have the people who just don't believe in God, but then you have the asshats who NEED to make you not believe in him either. People need to learn to let bigons be bigons. Or blorgons be blorgons...
