If anything, taxes for the lower and middle class and maybe even the upper middle class should even probably be cut further. But I think that people at the high end - people like myself - should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we've ever had it.

I noticed a lot of pro-tax arguments in the comments, so I thought I'd throw in an opposing opinion:
I think that it's good for the rich to give their money to the poor. However, forcing people to give their money away is neither moral nor fair. (It's sort of like that religious riddle of "Does doing a good deed under the threat of hell really make a person good?") When people talk about raising taxes on the rich, they think of the government as a giant charity that out of pure graciousness and generosity makes sure every hungry person is fed. That really isn't the case. Most of the money the government takes in goes to the military. The rest gets dumped into broken programs that are only widening the gap between the rich and poor even though they're sold on the idea that they aren't. There's a "pretense of knowledge" in that the people think the government knows the best way to spend our money. The truth is, in the words of Milton Friedman, "If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand."
Another misconception is that lowering taxes (or rather not raising taxes) only allows for greed. But that argument is based entirely on a cynical view of human nature. People are willing to help their fellow man--and OP helps prove this. There's actually a sub-culture among the rich where not giving to charity or helping the community in someway is stigmatized and looked down on. Think of all the trust funds and charities that have been set up around the country. People don't need the government to tell them to be generous.
Tl;dr: Making the rich pay more taxes isn't necessarily going to help the poor. The US government sucks at everything, and is throwing away money by the truckload. Let people be generous on their own. And don't worry, they will.

We need to expand the tax base. It's all well and good for people to be like "tax bill gates more, he has infinite money!" but I have a deep philosophically objection to the concept that people who aren't paying anything into the system have the right to vote to take money from someone else. It's literally bullying - the tyranny of the majority if you will. I think everyone ought to be paying taxes of some variety: if you don't make much, you pay half a percent of your income. If you make tons, you pay a much, much higher percentage, but everyone ought to pay something. Everyone needs to have skin in the game or things just spiral out of control.
If you don't pay taxes, why wouldn't you vote to raise taxes on others and have it given to you? For me, that more or less equates to theft.
pic related. rant over.

In my country we have a tax system that means the rich do pay more, and it's never occurred to me that such a system could possibly be out of place.
How is it not a thing in America?

also, when he dies, hes giving everything to charity, except 5 mil each to his kids
"Did you know that it's impossible to make everyone happy on the internet? If I only cover serious news, I'm not being engaging enough. If I cover topics I find funny, I'm attacked for not being serious enough. If I support Ron Paul, I'm a GOP hack, if I support Gary Johnson, I'm a traitor. If I curse, I'm a thug, if I censor myself, I'm a prude. If I grow my beard out, I'm a slob, if I trim it down, people still complain. If I talk about religion, I'm divisive, if I don't, I'm cowardly. If I speak forcefully, I'm arrogant and conceited, if not, I'm weak and pathetic. If only the internet came with hater-blockers." - Adam Kokesh
Can anyone actually explain why the tax system in the US is so fucking stupid? Is it because big businesses have a big say in politics?

Well Bill, come to Denmark and pay 50 fucking % of your income.
Someone told me the other day that he has donated more money than the eighth richest man is worth if you want to put it in that perspective.
Yeaaaaah... I run a unix based system, and still support the good causes ol' Billy contributes to... The butthurt ones who talk him down on this thread just don't do anything good for this world as a member of society or as a human being.
