No, the level design has been greatly improved, some characters from HL2 are included to tie it in better with HL2, namely Kleiner and Eli. There's more NPC dialogue, banter etc. and a brand new epic soundtrack. It's not a "shot for shot" remake, it's more of a retelling, but it follows the chronology of HL1 so it's still cannon.

I very well may check it out then. ^.^ I always felt that hl1 had some flaws so hopefully this fixes those issues.
