Statistically, women are involved in slightly fewer serious accidents than men (they get in about the same amount, just men's tend to be more serious, and the dollar difference is only a few percentage points), and this difference is barely measurable at all outside the lower age groups. Teenage and 20 something males indeed drive faster and more recklessly than females. Anybody that's been to high school knows this much. And it's hardly a newsflash that males are more aggressive than females. Also, on average, men drive much more than women, and even though the accident figures are based on miles driven, fatigue is a factor in many serious accidents, and I think it has to be considered. Anyway, this statistic anomaly seems to be reversing in recent years. Accident related deaths for females are increasing, and for males, decreasing. I happen to think cell phones have a lot to do with that. But males, at least in my opinion, are better at handling a car. Based on both data and personal experience. No one can claim any longer that females are prevented by petty predjudices, socialization, physical differences or any other thing from competing in racing sports or stunt driving, yet males still dominate. And even though both of my wives were very good drivers (my second wife had been driving almost 24 years when we broke up, and never even got a ticket, let alone cause a wreck), but when it came to backing up a trailer, driving on snow or ice, and yeah, or even parallel parking a car in a tight space, there was never any question about who would get stuck with the job, and it was always me.

-c- (Damn Anon wait time) We also took a lot of long trips, related to both business and recreation, and there were many times when I would drive (mostly because of my wretched impatience. Like to get where I'm going. Hate being stuck in the truck or car) for 12-16 hours at a time with nothing besides gas and piss breaks. And It seems this is the case with a lot of families. Certainly with most of the ones I know. When they go on long trips its usually the male that does the bulk of the driving.
