Meh, I don't get all the hate on the actual apple product itself. Sure, they're expensive. I get that. But I had a windows pc for.. 8 years? Had to spend so much money on it to get new parts because it started going slow, blew some more money for virus protection. And some more money to get it fixed around 5 times whenever it decided to take a shit on me. At the end of its day, it had as many viruses as your mom's vagina!
So I decided to try mac maybe 5 or 6 years into having that computer. Still have it after 10 years, no problems. Runs a little slower than when I first got it, of course. But still.. no problems. So although I spent more money in the beginning to buy it I have less issues in the long run. I just don't really mind both computers- I don't hate windows. I still have a windows laptop for all my gaming.

I'm going to tell you a secret. Apple and Microsoft (MacOS and Windows) based PC's use the same parts so anything mechanical will function exactly the same. In other words you would have to replace the same parts regardless.

Second: Mechanical parts on a PC don't just start "going slow" there are only 2 the fan and HDD. The HDD either functions or doesn't. If your computer is going slow it's a software issue and probably due to you not maintaining it (just like you would a car or any other product.)

Third: I've never seen a virus on a windows 7 PC that people didn't pretty much ask for.
Macs have less virus's not because they're more secure but because they hold less market share (5%) and so it is not profitable to make a virus for it.

Fourth: Virus protection is free google ZoneAlarm or Avast. You will also note any paid for antivirus also has a Mac version.

Fifth: Having worked in the industry I will tell you i've fixed just as many macs if not more for hardware issues due to the attempt to create compact size they tend to have a lot of overheating issues.

In the end the main issue with PC's is that users are given to many choices and have no idea what they're doing or buying. If you buy a 200$ PC from derpherp hardware than it's gonna be shitty but if you were willing to pay 2000$ like you would a mac you would have a machine twice as fast for the same price.

Enjoy the pseudo-security of mac's security by obscurity model. Windows may get lots of infections (if you are careless with it), but most of them are mostly harmless and easy to get rid of. You don't get many infections on a mac, but when you do, may god have mercy on your soul. All it takes from that virus is about 8 letters and characters to destroy the whole computer once it's in there!

Oh, and enjoy paying 300$ for what is essentially free security patches and a couple wallpapers on a dvd!

I barely payed attention in Linux class, but does that basically mean remove all files? (The picture)
User avatar #132 to #126 - silasdg (09/02/2012) [-]
rm=remove. -rf = recursive ignoring all prompts (warnings) / being root.

Basicly yes remove all files attached to root(home) and ignore any warnings

More or less like the old "delete system32"

Oh, and since macosx is a ripoff of linux/unix that will do the same to a mac. There are videos of it slowly killing itself on youtube lol
User avatar #170 to #169 - silasdg (09/03/2012) [-]
Yup MacOS is Unix based.
User avatar #167 to #132 - ccccmoney (09/03/2012) [-]
But worse. Because all external drives and flashdrives and network drives should be mounted somewhere around /, so if it can, it will also delete anything it can see and has write access to.

If you manage to get this to run at work, may god have mercy on your soul haha

it had as many viruses as your mom's vagina!

Then you're a fucking idiot who doesn't know how to use a PC correctly. If you take care of a PC and know how to use one, it'll last you just as long as the mac. The hardware inside it is the same fucking thing.

Enjoy your mac faggot.

Point is, windows computers are more susceptible to viruses unfortunately. Or maybe I just watch too much animal porn.

And I will enjoy my mac. AND my windows laptop, faggot.
#138 to #109 - silasdg (09/02/2012) [-]
Windows computers are not "more susceptible"

All computer software is code starting with binary
( 011001100110000101100111011001110110111101110100 )
Get out your decoder rings kiddies!
it can then move up to many different coding languages (C, C++, C# are common)

In other words Mac's are just as easily compromised.

The only reason Macs have less virus's is because they have less market share (5%) and it's not profitable or fun to make a virus that will only effect 5% of the machines in the world.

User avatar #168 to #138 - ccccmoney (09/03/2012) [-]
Also, they allow less to run at elevated levels, and dont really let a virus do much without being elevated. But if it can find a way to elevate itself, it basically has more rights than the user does at that point, and can unleash hell

There's reasons for that, that will change soon enough, trust me. Plus, the reason why computers get slower is because software is constantly changing and is being created on bigger and better computers all the time. Eventually your computer will become outdated no matter what, there is no exception, even your mac, then you'll have to drop another couple thousand on a new one.

Also, you have a 10 year old mac? I HIGHLY doubt it works as well as you say it does.
