I thought that American's used the term China to describe an expensive form of porcelain tableware? American's don't call a toilet bowl China, which is generally made of porcelain.

When someone asks "Hey, what's a toilet made out of?". We don't say China, we say porcelain. OP, if you were any more of a faggot you'd float across the sky using the powers of homosexuality keeping everyone awake with the sound of your butt whistle.

We call it Porcelain, china is just a nickname.
You don't see me making fun of British people for calling cigarettes fags.

But we DO call the material porcelain. Calling the plates and bowls the "fine china" is because China is where it originally came from.

Pretty sure 90% of america just say plates and bowls.

Porcelain is the stuff fine china is made of. Fine china SPECIFICALLY REFERS TO a set of plates and cups. We still call it porcelain you asshole.

That's why we call it the "porcelain throne" as opposed to "chinese throne".

The English also call fine, expensive dishes China. There's a reason they do. They started it what with, you know, owning a good chunk of china for a while via trade.
