You're right, there are good bands still out there. But if you were to take a car, any car at random, and you turned on the radio, what do you think is going to come on?
#339 to #5 - krumpetking (08/30/2012) [-]
I think here we're talking about the pop of today. In the 60s to 80s it was all rock 'n' roll and the beginnings of metal, and the young men and women rebelling against the oppression of the adults of the time. Whereas these days the music represents nothing except for being rich, getting stoned and acting as slutty as the public will let you get away with. No soul nowadays. Popular culture of today is **** .
#63 to #5 - samxdaxman (08/30/2012) [-]
the bad music is mostly on the radio. like hopsin said: "real artists get shelved and whack ones get famous, to keep masses brainless a smart mind is dangerous."

You know why no one remembers bad music from the 80s?
Because it was bad.

You're not looking hard enough for good music.
User avatar #280 to #15 - thunderbirdbass (08/30/2012) [-]
I always think about that, how everything seemed so great in retrospect because we only remember the classics or the really good songs.

User avatar #115 to #110 - kevinzheng (08/30/2012) [-]
well it depend on your taste i listen to main stream music sometime dubstep sometime rock sometime old school rap sometime i don't know what is good music for you
User avatar #119 to #115 - Danzig (08/30/2012) [-]
True. I like classic rock, prog, some country, some old rap, I like some jazz and blues, and I've always thought there has been some good disco, if that narrows things down for you.
User avatar #227 to #119 - DietWater (08/30/2012) [-]
for rap, check out Hopsin, The Palmer Squares, Wax and Herbal T.
you should also check out some newer bands like Loose Lips Sink Ships (math rock), Freelance Whales (indie rock), Modest Mouse, and Polar Bear Club.
These are just some of my favorite modern musicians/bands. Just some suggestions.
User avatar #120 to #119 - kevinzheng (08/30/2012) [-]

I was gonna write a really long comment but this picture sums it up perfectly. + hooray for mars volta and wolfmother!
I'd like to add that there is somewhat good popular music like the gaslight anthem, chuck ragan, frank turner, tool, porcupine tree, cunninlynguists etc.
You really don't have to look very long to find good music.
#406 to #399 - ksawek (08/30/2012) [-]
At the beginning I just thought that some of that albums were not so new. Then I just realized that maybe too many things happened in my life these last years.

Anyway, I approve it.

And for sure, we are just focusing in the English-speaking scene. For instance, if you like Brazillian music, Criolo's "No na orelha" album could be perfectly one of the best albums ever, and it is from 2011.

Mumford & Sons
Foo Fighters
This Will Destroy You
System Of A Down

Yes, please continue to tell us why musicians today are all **** . We're all listening intently.
User avatar #203 to #187 - Nameloc (08/30/2012) [-]
Too bad System of a Down isn't into it anymore as they were before the split.

Before they split:
Serj jumping up and down on stage singing everything perfect, entire band with hype.

After they split:
Serj standing in place singing in his different voices in random parts of songs, not much hype...

:/ Sucks that they have their disagreements. If only they could become what they were.

I'm still waiting for Tool to make another album. It's been five long years.
User avatar #208 to #204 - Nameloc (08/30/2012) [-]
If you wanted to, you could try listening to Van Canto. It isn't the type of Metal genre you'd be used to.
(They do Metal A Capella, the only instrument is drums. 5 singers, one male lead, one female lead, 3 mimicking guitars.)
Here's a great song by them: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Shw3lYC6DsY

They even made a song for a video game.

The only downside is that they are European and don't do much touring outside.
User avatar #410 to #208 - hauntzor (08/31/2012) [-]
Not bad, dare I say reminiscent of Dragonforce? Power metal isn't really my favorite though.

I listen to all kinds of metal, really. Lately I've been into Cephalic Carnage. They're mostly death/grindcore/stoner metal, but they've made a couple songs that just scream Tool at most parts. They even use a sax in some of their music, which I find both cool and weird.
User avatar #412 to #410 - Nameloc (08/31/2012) [-]
I currently have a CD with 1,600 songs, almost all a mix of Metal/ Heavy Metal. This includes a lot of Cephalic Carnage.
User avatar #413 to #412 - hauntzor (08/31/2012) [-]
Holy **** , I'd never thought I'd meet another CC fan on here, honestly.

you have the ******* internet at your disposal.

go listen to some old music and stop complaining about today's. there's great music today anyway, cage the elephant, system of a down, arctic monkeys, i fight dragons, canto, lostprophets, toadies, weezer, ******* WEEZER., red hot chili peppers. if anything, music is more broad these days, so i find it hard to believe you can't find any new music that you like.

just shut up about it.

that applies to all of you.
User avatar #273 to #206 - themuffinmanman (08/30/2012) [-]
I'm wearing a Weezer shirt right now :3 Also, since you seem to like Weezer so much, you should check out Ozma if you haven't already. They are pretty much Weezer with synthesizers. And They are awesome.

Agreed. There's even music being made right now that sounds similar to music made in the 80's (as the era that OP lamented not living in.)
There's definitely problems with the music industry, but they're not all encompassing, and anyone who says "There isn't good music anymore" clearly doesn't know how to use to internet at all.
