How to terraform Mars:

Right now, the hottest it gets on mars is about 87*F (work with me here on the degrees people, I don't have many options), and nights average about -100*F, the atmosphere is only 8% oxygen (humans require at least 20%), and the cosmic radiation and sandstorms can kill a man. So, wat do?

Bore down into the crust about every 100 square miles to heat up the planet and prevent water from permanently freezing, melt all the water from the poles (don't know how yet) to provide a solvent for anchored colonies of algae, lichens, moss, and fungus that will be glazed across the surface of the planet, set up black reflective tar across certain locations on the planet to help further warm it. In about 200-500 years, there will hopefully be enough ozone to protect colonists enough that they can go for a walk with nothing else but a respirator and a pair of sunglasses.

Reasons to go to Mars: the soil and bedrock there is rich with precious metals that have been brought in by endless eoms of asteroid strikes: platinum, silver, gold, copper, titanium, iron, aluminum, cadmium, uranium, and even gallium.

It's a very exciting era that our generation is entering, where we are just on the brink on breakthroughs that will someday lead to this.
