The way the mother expressed herself sounded as such.
If (they have eggs )
Then
bring 6 bottles of milk.
Whereas what was meant was ...

Previous deleted for typo edit that changed what I was saying. ;P
Am I the only one thinking that, with the instructions given to him, he should have come back with 7 bottles of milk?
My interpretation of the instructions given is as follows: (given in basic pseudocode with procedures that are simple and assumed to exist just for ease of use)
procedure Shopping begin
Go(market);
Buy(1);
if(eggs are present) then
Buy(6);
Go(home);
end
What he did, however, was follow the instructions "Go to the market and buy 1 bottle of milk unless they have eggs, in which case buy 6." Just sayin'... ;P
