If you are a freshman in college, most of your classmates probably down know each other, so you'll be just fine, . The first few weeks might be awkward, but you'll get past it.

Do you live in a dorm with someone else? Make friends with them and then they'll introduce you to more people, and the cycle repeats itself.

Yeah but he seems even more reclusive and socially awkward then me. I mean hes planning on going home every weekend and sometimes during the week. Hes pretty awkward to talk to too. I have made friends with the two other guys in my suite, i exaggerated a bit when i said "dont know anyone".

Pretend to drop something and see if anyone helps you pick it up.
That's my technique for sorting out the friendly people from the wankers in a new social situation.

you know its funny. in college people are a lot more willing to talk to outsiders. you got a goo shot to make friends. hang out in public areas. if you see someone you wanna try to be friends with make a comment about something small about them. or a common interest if you see someone from your class outside i swear its like gold to strike up a conversation about the class. its so easy its scary lol

Thats happened a couple times so far. Just a couple minutes ago i totally blew with this really pretty girl, we were in this tunnel that leads from the dining center to some of the dorms, i held the door for her and she said something to me then we walked like a quarter mile together and i didnt say anything to her. FML

if she didn't have anything in her hand you should of held out your arm and playfully asked to be her escort for the duration of your walk. im not sure if youre a playful guy but i know girls like guys who aren't afraid to be awkward in public but instead just exude a confidence. trust me it works. im not saying you gotta do that

just remember playful and awkward is better than silent and forgotten. especially if it gets you noticed

Thanks man, usually i get to that point with girls once i know them pretty well, its the meeting and stuff i have a problem with but ill deffinatly give it a try.

i forgot to tell you the 3 second rule.
its a common rule when approaching. It's the rule that you should not take more than 3 seconds from the time you decide you want to talk to someone to making first contact. Anymore than 3 seconds you instantly overthink it and don't do anything about it.

That makes a lot of sense. The other thing i do a lot is as i come away from a conversation i immediately start criticizing everything i did wrong during the interaction even if i didnt do anything wrong. it really messes with me sometimes

you're probably a perfectionist but if i may make a suggestion. Put a little bit more of yourself in the conversation. Make it more personal than just hey hows class omg i have a lot of studying. put an imprint on the converstation from your own experiences.

But you may think im crazy but the critcising is good. It's a great 2nd conversation icebreaker. you can say something like OMG i can't believe i said "blah blahb lbha" she will of course say its fine dont worry about it. then you can be like yeah but i tend to be a bit of a perfectionist sometimes. I sometimes wonder if i have OCD. The good thing about college is EVERY SINGLE PERSON will say OMG ME TOO. cause everyone has their quirks :)

no. but its actually a bit of a science think of it in stages to calm yourself down
1. Decision stage - decide who you want to talk to
2. Approach stage - the journey to the person
3. The opener stage - All you need is a good opener. Something open ended that they can't just say yes or no then stop talking
4. Charm stage (i guess lol) - after the initial small talk stuff you start to put on the charm and get a bit deeper about yourself and the other person. getting some interesting questions to ask is good. (one thing you should have is a couple mindfucks prepared. little tricks you could pull out if the convo is about to die down and you don't know what to say next. Something that will make her go OMG how did you do that that was crazy ahahah. They are also called bar tricks cause they are used in bars a lot :)

i think the only thing you need is a positive attitude. Someone who turns a bad time into a good time somehow is a god :)

It gets a lot better. 3rd year here and I can't wait to go back tomorrow.
