I guess the reference I made was both outdated and pretty obscure.

That is Bruce Cambell, famous for being a B-Movie actor. He played the main character in the Evil Dead series of films in which, in one scene, a possessed corpse of some old woman buried in the basement becomes animated and turns into a horrible monster.

The line this monster repeats, over and over, is "DEVOUR YOUR SOUL."

Since it is now Spongebob instead of an old women, Bruce's character must be indeed "trippin' balls."
