I love Fullmetal Alchemist as well as Nullmetal Alchemist.
Funny as fuck.

Just checked nullmetal out, funny as hell! I'm in the middle of watching the original anime. Haven't seen brotherhood yet, I'm gonna watch all the originals first.

The originals stray so far from the manga and skip so many characters and important plot moments.

I've seen a few of the original, but the entirety of Brotherhood. Some differences include: Alphonse has a different voice actor (At least it sounds like it. I don't enjoy that fact.), and in the town with Father Cornello, the way they thwart him and their battle is different and etc.

And yes, Nullmetal is awesome.

I'm nearly 40 episodes in. The story really picks up after episode 25. Also, episode 25 has a MAJOR FUCKING PLOT POINT in it, in case you haven't seen it. Just a heads up.

The "originals" were made before the manga series were completed, and at one point, they caught up and went in an entire different direction. The "originals" are not the original. Don't think of it as "Originals" then Brotherhood redo or follow-up. Think of it as "Original" screw-ups and Brotherhood fucking right.

That's how I was, don't wait to start on Brotherhood, hop immediately into it. It is so much better.

Alchemy is mostly circles, if you can't draw a circle, you aren't going to be very successful p:

(That's why some people have them ready made on their gloves etc, I'm sure)

No you have to draw the appropriate alchemical symbol for each move, for example fire for mustang. People have the symbols on their gloves so that it's easier to just do the move without having to draw it every time. They can draw each symbol relatively fast, however it's just for a matter of convenience. Once you have done human transmutation, you have no need to draw any symbols anymore. The only characters known to do this are Izumi and Ed.

but al was the philosopher's stone so that doesn't really count. I didn't know roy did it, I only watched the 2003 one.

In the 2009 series (Brotherhood) Al actually saw the Portal of Truth himself, but just couldn't remember it. And when he finally remembers what he saw, he can do transmutation without a circle, not because he's a Philospher's Stone.

Roy is forced to perform human transmutation near the end of the series, and he sees the portal, allowing him, too, to perform alchemy without a circle.
