God has said himself he is unchanging. God would not create new rules, if he is really all powerful, all knowing and good, he would create one set of rules that were consistent and would deal with all of humanity's problems ever. And clearly one sin is worse than another. That is absolutely ridiculous to even suggest otherwise. "in god's eyes" is like a little disclaimer. Humans can make moral judgments themselves, and we judge things to be different levels of sin. If you think they are the same in God's eyes, and you believe in god, then that is the truth, and all sins should have the same punishment.

As for the last sentence. I think you've missed the point. In trying to stop people FROM SINNING through homosexuality, they are obliged to oppose anything that could possibly enable this "sin" otherwise they aren't doing their job. And the thing is, some people, a lot, do this, and you are a hypocrite for not if you truly believe in the old testament.

The old testament and the new testament, whether you'd like to believe it or not, are completely separate (and sometimes conflicting) ideologies. Being Christian, my emphasis is on the New Testament, yes. But I have read the Old Testament as well.

One is all about punishment and God's wrath (old), the other about God forgiving man (new).

Its not our jobs to be free of sin. If it was we'd all be fucked, and we'd all be heading for hell.

The ten commandments were the original "these are sins" rules. The other ones were clearly man-made.

My point is, you murder someone, or you steal a candy from a store: It's all been forgiven. It's not like it says "Accept christ and thou shalt be saved (unless you're gey or a murderer or a rapist)." There is no degree of sin if it was all already forgiven.

A requirement to be saved is to believe in Christianity. Christ died to forgive sins of PEOPLE WHO CHOSE TO FOLLOW HIM. As an atheist, I cannot be saved, so even though I am a vastly better person than so many others, like pedophile priests for example, they go to heaven and I endure eternal suffering because I choose not to believe in a god based.

In the end, only 2/5 people are Christian, I think less. So because every single person sins, only 2/5 at most get to go to heaven because only they have repented and been reconciled with god. The majority of people go to hell, which is messed up.

And if I don't have to be Christian to not go to hell, then what on earth is the point in it in the first place. \

By the way, the fact that God, who can do anythign, having to send some kind of symbol to forgive sin is inconsistently flashy with his ultimate character. He could and should have just forgiven sin, not make Jesus and then have him tortured in some sort of metaphor for all of humanity.

There's too much ceremony, specificity, and symbolism to explain to someone who hasn't read the bible as to why Christ had to die for humanity to be saved.

I don't know. So much about hell was manufctured by the catholic church.
For example, the bible never says a single thing about purgatory. It was made as a way to scare people into paying the church.

Catholicism made a lot of these scare tactics that stuck with christianity as it progressed.

So I don't know about Hell. It may just be that people who "deserve" hell never experience the afterlife.

I also believe that nobody has "gone to heaven" yet. It's not like you die, and magically warp to somewhere new (which a lot of people believe). It'll take Christ coming back (the rapture) for that to happen. It takes a huge event.
