No, that's how they calculate the respective positions. Any medals table will show the country with the most golds at the top, rather than overall medal tally.

If countries are equal then they go by most silvers and so on.

That's why Kazakhstan is above Netherlands - even though they have less bronzes and silvers

Most that I've seen go by totals and not golds.That's why the US is #1 and China's #2

But the US does have more gold medals. UK are 3rd even though Russia have more medals because Great Britain has more golds.

Well they do now but a couple days ago the US was ranked number one but China had more gold medals. I mean it depends on where you're getting the rankings because different places have different systems but I think the official is based on the total and not golds.
