Not quite sure what to make of that. If you're having a crack at satire, then by all means go ahead, I wouldn't mind my cosy paragraph up there metamorphosing into copypasta. However, if the so-called 'popular opinion getting bashed' that unsettles you is in this case demonstrated by my comment, then go play in traffic. I didn't publicise my tremendous words for the sake of sounding edgy and rising up to favoured opinion riding a wave of angst; I did it because I'm up to here with people demeaning Macs for no sound reason. Eh, I'm not sure what I meant when I was writing that. I guess I'm just tired of seeing the same patterns on FJ. Something is widely popular and accepted and then someone decides that it's not okay anymore and "declares war" on it. Upon reading your more recent comment, I hope that you are more intelligent than I previously had assumed and will not fall to such pitiful levels.

Personally, the comments on this website (and more importantly, the links to outside sources that I found here), helped to shape my opinion on Macs and Apple. So, in fact, those "foul-mouthed, fuming comments" can indeed have an impact upon the lurkers.

So now is when I would ask you what right you have to tell these other people to shut the fuck up, but I shan't do that as I will end up contradicting myself, as I'll be questioning your right to share your opinion on whether or not others can share their opinion.

I would never bring myself down to such a low level and 'argue for the sake of arguing', as it goes. I have a decent image in my mind of the problem that you have depicted – the example that springs to mind first is when FJ originally used to wage Internet wars back in 2009-2010 on 4chan. Out of the blue – I don't exactly remember when – some all-knowing peacekeeper garbled the idea that since we steal around half of our content from 4chan, why not start acting pleasantly and meekly towards them (otherwise known as being their bitch) as FJ has been doing from that point in time onwards. Frankly, this person may have even been correct in his logic, as in there weren't any notable flaws and shortcomings in his logic, yet it was heavily frustrating to see a colosall snowball effect sprout up from one meagre counterintuitive comment.

To each their own, I suppose, because I do not see any way in which something resembling "HURR MACZ R 4 FAGS", and I don't intend to generalise the popular opinion, can ever be insightful. I wouldn't really advise on using the cesspool of opinions or lack of thereof here as a credible source.

When I announce that I prefer Macs, I am voicing my opinion on behalf of myself and certainly not the whole Mac community. I know for a fact that they are, indeed, quite pricey. On the other hand, I get ever so slightly irritated whenever people overexaggerate this fact, considering that some of these whingers have probably spent more on their computer + modifications than I have on my Macbook. As far as your story goes, I never ruled out that there are cheaper alternatives available. However, most people who avidly bash Mac users have all had a similar form of interaction with people such as your friend and from that they infer that all Mac users are analogous to said friend of yours.

Exactly. Macs aren't bad machines, they just have a ridiculous price tag that is pretty much unjustified. Most of the time Macs are just $3000 facebook machines and that's what we see.

For most people it's like watching someone pay $3.50 for a coke when a pepsi is $1 (they're so alike there's no reason to overspend by that much).

But if you have a legitimate reason and believe your investment in a macbook will be worth the pricetag (which seems to be your case) then more power to ya.

Yes, you sir get it. Macs are absolutely brilliant at what they were designed for, but overpriced for everything else,I use Macs in school for music recording and graphics intensive work, because they do it much better than PCs (less latency issues, faster render times, etc), and if I was considering doing music or editing semi-professionally or even as a serious hobby I would totally buy a Mac. For anything else I would take a PC though, purely on a price and customization front.

sure it does, but pro tools was made for Mac OSX, and is only barely compatible to any other OS i know of. i am sure i could have built a decent computer with the OS you speak of but quite frankly i decided what computer i would need just a week before i needed it, so i just didnt have time or knowledge to make one.

and i like this thing. it does what i need it to far better than any other computer i have owned. and no i did not pay 3000 dollars, just 1500.

I don't really care what hardware it uses, I just had a preference for Macs for certain things, I am not a clever man and therefore would probably still spend the money just so I had a better idea of what I was getting, but you do make valid points.

I don't know of any computers that come dualbooted, but it is easy to do. Get a PC with windows then dualboot Ubuntu on it. Installing Ubuntu is pretty straight forward, but you can ask me if you have any questions.
