It depends on how you define "alive" and "evolution"
evolution can just mean change due to more favored attributes. alive can mean anything: breathing, converting, changing, sexing; but most humans are arrogant enough to think they have it pinned down to veggies and animals

"
Homeostasis: Regulation of the internal environment to maintain a constant state; for example, electrolyte concentration or sweating to reduce temperature.
Organization: Being structurally composed of one or more cells, which are the basic units of life.
Metabolism: Transformation of energy by converting chemicals and energy into cellular components (anabolism) and decomposing organic matter (catabolism). Living things require energy to maintain internal organization (homeostasis) and to produce the other phenomena associated with life.
Growth: Maintenance of a higher rate of anabolism than catabolism. A growing organism increases in size in all of its parts, rather than simply accumulating matter.
Adaptation: The ability to change over a period of time in response to the environment. This ability is fundamental to the process of evolution and is determined by the organism's heredity as well as the composition of metabolized substances, and external factors present.
Response to stimuli: A response can take many forms, from the contraction of a unicellular organism to external chemicals, to complex reactions involving all the senses of multicellular organisms. A response is often expressed by motion, for example, the leaves of a plant turning toward the sun (phototropism) and by chemotaxis.
Reproduction: The ability to produce new individual organisms, either asexually from a single parent organism, or sexually from two parent organisms."
That's the definition of an organism, otherwise known as a living being.
Evolution is change over time. Since OP is talking about handling diseases, it is most probably biological evolution.
Let's have a look at the definition for that, shall we?
"Biological evolution refers to the changes over time that occur in living organisms. Biological evolution is defined as descent with modification. "
1. Planet is not a living organism
2. Therefore, it cannot evolve.

you realise our planet does all those thins...
it maintains temperatures due to a complext mechanism
life on it has an organizationy
you coud interpert the metabolism as the life and all forms of energy flows
its grows... it grew so far by absorving mass...
it adapts... any change in it´s mechanisms causes a change that will create another mechanism that works... (this includes response to stimuli)
now about the reproduction part that kills it...
our mind is nothing but electro-chemical impulses organized in a specific way (yet to be discovered)... so are you saing that it is impossible for something a bilion times bigger than you share a similar energy flow? just because it is not proven it does no mean it is no possible, opening your mind and testing and proving it is not possible is what makes science evolve... i was said that man would never walk on the moon, eventually it was proven wrong, people of that time were just close-minded...

you don´t understand what we are trying to say...
the planet may not be a living organism and crap
but it perhaps there is a chance it has a conscience, could be equal to ours... could be even weaker than a fucking virus... the point is there is a possibility it could be true (even though that probability would look something like 1 to "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" so many fuckin numbers that would fill up an entire city, and still remain a possibility, practicably (or however its written).
Note that this concept appears in several sci-fi books and in games....
I´m remembering a reference from dead space, when they crack the planet and it starts leaking the magnetic field... someone aboard the ship ears the sound (cant remember the instrument used) and says it´s almost like its crying, or dyeing (may not be exact quote)

I'll put it into the literally infinitely large pile of "Stuff that could be true"
Now, unless you got something other than "Well we don't know for sure" it's gonna stay in that pile.
The first pile is too big to care about.
Therefore irrelevant
