Why? So you can live the life you want to live, and not have to worry about your water being shut off. Unless your dream lies in something that doesn't require university, like art

I went to university and yes I am now in thousands of pounds worth of debt and (because I live in England) not much more likely to get a job BUT I had the best 3 years of my life and met some amazing people! And now i'm moving in with my best friend where we went to Uni and I feel great! I am poor but I don't even care

I love it when the State pays me other people's hard-paid tax money so that I can get an education without having to take out loans...

This is pretty stupid. It's called an investment; spend some money to make a lot more in the long run.

Okay guys, I know this isn't the best place for asking but I'd like to hear your opinion. Is it worth being an English Major? English is the only subject I'm sort of good at (not my first language, though this isn't relevant). Would I end up serving fries for those who major in engineering?

until only doing what you love grants you absolutely no money and you start wishing you had done something useful to the economy instead

I may be an exception to the rule, but I tried college, but had to work to pay the bills instead. I got on as a nobody for the local department of transportation. Now, 8 years after I graduated HS, I have worked my way through the trenches and now make a very nice salary designing structural components for bridges and oil field foundations at a huge engineering firm.

For me, it was about my attitude, willingness to learn, and the understanding that I was going to have to work for what I wanted.

the entire point of college if to learn how to do the field you plan on entering.

unfortunately they went of course now they want you to take out huge loans on classes and your paycheck goes to the books.
sure, after 2 years of classes you dont even NEED you get to practice your major but is the 15k debt worth it?

if you are a senior in high school or graduate watch this:
and consider your stance

College is only necessary for certain career fields. If you want to be a realtor, you don't have to go to college. However, in my area of study, which is vocal music education, you need a degree to get hired by a school. I want to go on to teach and conduct a University choir, and that sort of work requires a degree. It's all about what you want to do with your life. Not EVERY job requires a degree.

My dad has dyslexia and left school at the age of 15 or 16 and earns almost £100,000 a year, why do people think university education is so important?

Why got to college? Experience and the possibillity of having a job that will make you happy for you know that you are doing something you are good at and making proper money for it so that you can be less of a leech to society and actually spend some well earned money on things of your interest.
