i have a question. in your country, can you own a firearm? and what do you have to go through to get one?

Yes you can, and you have to get a licence to carry it. I got to be honest I don't know exactly how to get it, because i currently don't own any firearms, but dude please don't pull that "American patriot": 'the right to have firearms equals freedom' becuase America could really benefit from not having so many guns everywhere. Where I live close to no one gets killed by guns, and no that doesn't triple the knife violence. I've been to several states in USA and I think it's a great place, great people, but I really disagree on the right to own guns.

Im not saying Americans aren't free, but I think many of your rights are more or less only on the paper. You have two President candidates, who both struggle for the neutral middle policies and are vote pleasers,you have major problems with freedom for homosexuals if you're poor you can't never really be free, and your liberal market which started out great just made a rich elite who has way too much power now. Don't be a nationalist, fight for the future and a better place to live, instead of comparing to anyone else.

you make some good points. i've always felt that the right to own guns is the right to personal safety, which i still do. when used properly, guns can be the most effective form of self-defense there is. everyone says that guns are for defending yourself from the government, which they can be but how many people would actually do that when the time comes? imo modern americans are kind of pussies when it comes to that. the colonists didn't have any problem killing their british brethren, who were under orders from the king to oppress them, but nowadays i doubt anyone would be willing to kill american soldiers, even for their freedom.
i've been thinking a lot about ditching america in a while. i still feel like it's moderately free right now but it's still going down the shitter. i've heard canada is pretty nice, you can still own a gun, their government isn't retarded. when america is completely in the toilet or getting very close to that, i'll probably move to canada

Yes, I do agree that a weapon can be very useful for protection and that I have no problem with, the problem is, when it is as easy to get a gun as it is in America, many people who probably shouldn't have one, can get one anyway. The shooting at the batman premire is an example of how bad it can be. I do agree that many American politicians can be a little... Stupid (to sugarcoat it). I don't know much about Canada but it's probably nice though, good luck with moving :)

and many people who want one can get one anyway where you live. if a criminal wants a gun, they're going to find one no matter where they are. gun laws don't prevent criminals from obtaining guns because they're laws and criminals aren't exactly well known for obeying laws. personally,. i think the whole batman shooting would have been avoided or ended quickly if every competent person in that theater had been concealed or open carrying a handgun

Oh I wasn't doing it to show how more free we are, I was doing it show that the USA isn't as free as they think they are, or more free than anyone else. Granted there are a lot of countries without a lot of freedom but there are still a lot with.

Im current finishing my second masters. I gotz degrees in physics, chemistry, and almost biology. I got lotsa money and a nice house, but every weekend I spend up in gods country (that'd be Lancaster, PA) I dont want to come back. The more time I spend living the red neck life, the more I never want to live any other type of life. Civilization and neighbors are over rated.
