just always remember one thing alone is not enough. mixing in running and other cross training will drastically improve results. that along with of course a good well thought out dietary plan. wii fit can make it fun but in the end it can only do so much

Bro tip for any guys trying to lose weight, do not, seriously, do NOT try to do it by building muscle. Because, although muscles do help control your weight, exercising them well will make you really fucking hungry. You'll be craving protein, and you'll probably get it from a greasy burger and not a protein supplement. With my experience, the only thing that ever worked was when I finally committed fully to cardio. And once you drop the weight, then you start building muscle, so it actually makes you look stronger, not just fatter.

I for one wish my metabolism was slower, It's extremely hard for me to bulk in the winter to help build muscle, so I build lean muscle all year which takes considerably longer.

Two of my brothers have seriously fast metabolism and I hate them for it.

Lifting is better for building muscle. Are you dense? Muscle itself is weight, for one. It makes you look bigger, because if you're fat, all it does it push your fat out farther. In order to build muscle, you must be getting enough protein so you must be eating enough to get it. You have to wait up to two fucking days just to work out the same muscles so you don't fuck up your body. You have to deal with being sore all the fucking time because if you aren't, you aren't working out enough. You have to own a progressive weight set or a membership to a gym because if you stop lifting more weight than the other day, you stop building muscle. I could go on and on forever about how much shit is involved in building muscle.

You know what you have to do for cardio? Fucking run. If you own shoes you're pretty much set. And fuck, you don't even need the shoes. Building muscle isn't for losing weight, building muscle is for building muscle. Losing weight is a side affect. I don't build muscle to lose weight for the same reason I don't own a farm to stay tan. I don't care if you swear by lifting weights, good for you, but not everyone feels the need to get big because they want to drop a few pounds. It's completely unnecessary when it comes to losing weight.

And here's the thing. Even if you swear that my advice is horrible, it's the same advice I got from a friend about a year ago. That advice is the absolute only reason I was ever able to drop the weight that had plagued me my whole life until then. At least a half a dozen times I went all out trying to build muscle, because as a guy that's the natural go-to, and who the fuck likes running? But I never lost more than twenty pounds, and the biggest thing is that I always gained it back once I stopped going to the gym. Muscles don't just magically stay big, you use 'em or lose 'em. No such problem with cardio. And with cardio you can start back up whenever and for however long you want. With lifting, you're back to square one and have to keep it up at least a couple weeks to start getting any kind of results.

So say what you will about my advice. But just know that a) I'm not the only one giving it, and b) it's already made a permanent 50 pound difference, so you can't say much about the results.

Do you have an PHD in broscience? Show me scientific proof and I might even believe you. But for now all you said is bullshit.

I don't think I've made any scientific claims, outside of basic workout knowledge and health knowledge like how the body makes you crave the nutrients it needs. I even remember some story about a guy stranded in the ocean who developed a love for raw fish eyes because his brain knew that was the only way to get enough nutrients. Yeah that's not really scientific at all, but I'm not a scientist. For all I know that could be wrong about craving meat after a workout, but I know I always did. But a protein bar always worked to stop the hunger, making me assume I just needed protein.

You sound like one of those guys that quit going to the gym because he has no discipline and then makes 400 different excuses explaining why, none of them being his own fault.

I quit going to the gym because I don't feel like spending money to go work out some place when I can get all the exercise I need at home or outside. But that's not the point, the point is all of those claims are completely basic knowledge of fitness. If you do not maintain your muscles, they'll eventually end up the way they were before you ever started working out. With cardio, there's obviously no muscle mass or equivalent to be lost. The only thing that changes after you start doing cardio is your cardiovascular system and endurance could regress to how they were before, but most people can still run whether they've been working out or not. With lifting, you may have been benching 300 lbs for all it matters, but if you wait long enough without exercising you have to gain all that muscle mass back again before you can lift that much. So, if it's been long enough, you're starting from square one. And I don't get what you're questioning about the next point. If you're covered in fat, obviously your muscles are under it. Fat people don't have defined muscles, so there isn't much difference between a person with a really fat arm and a person with a pretty fat arm and big biceps. And unless you're skinny, no amount of crunches is gonna give you a six pack, because you have to be thin enough for it to show. And the next point brings us back to exercise basics, you build muscle mass by ripping apart your muscle tissue on a microscopic level. If you lift, I don't know how this could be news to you. Nearly every person who goes to the gym daily will tell you it's a horrible idea to lift with the same muscles two days in a row, because it's too much strain on your muscle tissue and, if you don't rip your muscles apart completely, they'll at the very least be sore for a week. Whereas if you do legs one day and upper body the other day, it gives each set of muscles the full day of rest they need. Running out of comment space here, to be continued.

So the last point, again, is completely ridiculous for you to not know. If you lift the same amount of weight every day, you aren't building muscle mass. You're building endurance. The way to build muscle mass is more weight, less reps. But as you build that mass, you'll get stronger, and thus require more weight. And more, and more, until you get your muscles where you want them.

I'm self concious and I have social anxiety so I can't exercise in front of other people. I also cannot afford a good treadmill, neither do I have the space for it. I will however be buying an exercise bike soon.
