Fighting beats dark. I just think of it as this: Most dark moves are all physical, but they all have some kind of 'mental' aspect to it because it's a dark type. (Bite, Crunch, ect.) Fighting is just pure, raw power, so that beats the hybrid physical damage.

Psychic's weaknesses are based on fears. Lots of people are afraid of Bugs, Ghosts, and the Dark. Bugs resist Psychic because they have a hive mind, and psychics find it hard to comprehend that alien brain structure.

Second; that actually could very well be the case for Water Pokemon in the case that if their water is drained in some way, they could very well die.
Charmander's life line relies on the fire on his tail. In an episode, it's revealed that if the tail's fire is put out, then the Charmander dies.
For whatever unknown physiological reason, the flame has become a life source for the Charmander.

Actually, we use concrete nowadays, so it makes even less sense.
