Isaac Newton was an amazing man (fun fact, he was a devout Christian), there is absolutely no denying that, perhaps one of the greatest innovators and free thinkers ever, alongside Leibniz. Something like THE CALENDAR. Jesus' existence is undeniable, you may not need to believe that he was truly the son of god, but that is an entirely a different discussion. Not 200 years. Perhaps a few decades passed, but there were still people who had personally met Jesus at that time. The whole point, though, is that I am not arguing beliefs. Whether you believe that Jesus was holy and/or the son of god is largely inconsequential in this argument. Jesus Christ, the man, existed. That is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, and is not a belief. Just fact. Unless you want to argue that knowledge of Newton's, or Hitler's, or Obama's existence is a "belief"

If the owners of Chik-Fil-A were smart, they wouldn't mix business and religion. I'm not saying it's wrong of them to use their company to reach social ends, but it somewhat backfired.

Chik-Fil-A deserves every bit of flaming or boycotting they get for their opinion. If they want to be a moral authority more than a business, they have to deal with the fact that their customers don't like their morality.

So yeah, Chik-Fil-A has every right to announce their position on gay marriage, but anyone who stops supporting Chik-Fil-A because of that position is also completely justified.

I absolutely love Chik-Fil-A. They have by far the best fast food I have ever eaten and they honestly have better service than many of the restaurants I have attended. But, I still wish that they would at least keep their more controversial religious views out of their business. It really will not serve to help anyone.

His name is Truett Cathy, and he's a very devout Christian as well (obviously). I've met him twice at Chik-Fil-A (he owns a Mansion an hour away from me in McDonough, GA) and I respect that the guy makes sure his business follows his beliefs. It proves he isn't in it for the money. He also owns a foster home near me called Rock Ranch and they help house over 150 kids in just that one place.

I am straight and I approve this. In the Constitution it states " they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" so why can't gays be happy? It'll take some evidence to disprove that actually. I can guarantee you where I live there are no benefits to being married. Well except when you have a small kid for which you'll receive the equivalent of about 10 dollars a month. There are benefits only in the most developed countries which are not "most countries" I assure you. Also USA =/= the world.

Every country EU, every country of Commonwealth, every country of ex soviet union, most south american countries (catholic lobby), India, China, Japan, South Korea and Turkey I know have good benefits. That's in itself far over half of world's population. And leaves pretty much only africa and middle east out of it.

I've read that before and I cannot see any noticeable benefit... in other words nothing you cannot do another way besides marriage.

As for the rest of the world I cannot really find anything so I don't really know how you got your hands on that info. Keep in mind i said unnoticeable benefits such as my example above. What if I tell you there are benefits to being single?

It isn't something that is of great benefit and it will always be just another indicator that you belong(in some places literally) to some1. If you actually look up on some statistics you'll see that people are starting to prefer being single... actually it's been like that for a while now and more and more people chose to remain single even when they have a healthy relationship. Really... those benefits are small are really not worth the trouble.

I won't debate on this anymore since I'm really out of time. I respect your opinion on the matter, but for me marriage is more of a drawback and it's not really hard to see if you're willing to spend a few hours searching for information.

So if its a drawback for you you are incapable of understanding why anyone else would want it.
Fact that it brings tax benefits, that it brings benefits such as hospital visitation rights, inheritance rights (without possiblitly of family contesting the will), ability to put someone on their health benefit plan, and for lesbians very important fact that if one of them has a baby they raise it together, and one dies, other can't stay with the baby, it goes to first one's family. Those facts just pass you by.
There are tons of benefits to marriage, which is a big socio-economic contract not just simple document.
The fact that you can't understand that is a fault with you, not them.
And btw, how I know that? Because my best friend is a lesbian, and when he gf got sick (they been together over ten years) she could not visit in hospital since gf's mother who is anti-gay had her barred (her right as closest relation, which would be my friend's if they could get married), her gf's mother told my friend that if her daughter dies, she will have my friend evicted from the house they bought together but was in her gf's name. Oh and on top of that, gf got through, but they are now in debt because hospital bills are huge, and she couldn't be put on my friend's health benefit plan, because they are not married.
So don't tell me there are no benefits to being married, you are ignorant.

I understand what you're saying, but it seems pure jealousy to me. I'm not allowed to walk around naked on the streets, but I don't complain about it, because it doesn't change anything in my life. Maybe I'm just the type that wouldn't complain about useless things just because others have it. I am genuinely confused why it's such a big deal... and it seems people just go and support it like it's some kind of fad...

It's like a child's logic if you ask me.... wanting something not because it's important, but because the rest of the kids have it. I guess denying something like that isn't exactly fair, but I don't think it's worth any1's time and effort to try and get it allowed when there's nothing to gain, but a headache and hate and whatnot...It's entangled with religion and that's one of the reasons why it's so hard to change.

Married couples have (depending on state) between 50 and 200 different tax breaks on joined property. Well off married couple (say 150.000 a year in joined earnings) can save 10.000 a year in tax. Those are unavailable to gay people.
Also ability to put your spouse on your health plan. Imagine being with someone for 20+ years, unable to get married, and then they get sick, you two work low paying jobs, yours just happen to have benefits their does not. If you two could get married, they would get help, this way, they will not and will have to suffer, or get cheapest and worst medical help.

THAT and many many other things like that is what makes them miserable.
