if water is (arguably) the worlds most important resource, then why do we poop in it?

Water is not the most important resource , clean drinking water is .

BTW , many countries and regions use unpurified water from natural bodies like rivers and lakes or ground water for things like toilets , watering plants and lawns , washing cars/streets/lawns etc .

Have you ever considered that's why it's the worlds most important resource?

Cause we practically have an unlimited supply of it. So even thought it's the most important resource, it's not something we lack of.

Dense comment of the year, folks.

About 1 percent of Earth's water is drinkable. It's not some endless fountain that never has the possibility of running out.

"less than 1%" check your facts, boy, because it's actually around 3%. Also, have you ever noticed how fucking big the oceans are? They're fucking big.

No, 3% goes for water, which is not salty. Drinkable water is much rarer, because you have to get it either from wells, or from water purifiers.

We'll never run out of water. We don't really use it up, it just cycles through the environment.
