First of all, the homeless man (Ronald Poppo) survived, the attacker (who was not homeless) was shot because he was eating a man's face off and wouldn't back down. Second of all, I'm pretty sure that plenty of people had plenty of sympathy for the victim, and perhaps even the attacker. Someone will always make some kind of jokes about tragedy. It's called dark humor. People are joking about the shooting too.
