Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.

Alright, I've seen it on Facebook, and now I've seen it here on Funnyjunk. The whole "let's have Christian Bale dress up as Batman and visit the victims thing." Just... no. It sounds like a nice idea at first, and had good intentions, but the fact of the matter is that if the victims see Batman, it is very likely that they will be incredibly scared and hurt by it. They just got shot at while watching Batman, so in their minds right now Batman is associated with death, pain, and fear. You will only intensify the fear that they feel if you do this.

I know that this was intended to show the victims, especially the young children, that heroes still exist and that Batman is a good hero, but that’s NOT the effect this will have.

If ANYTHING. What I’d love to see happen instead would be to create some sort of "moment of silence" before each Batman showing. Or something of the sort. I dunno. Something like that seems far more appropriate than sending Batman to the victims. I mean, come on. :\

So.. When you gas the kids with Scarecrow's spray, they will see Batman. So to beat their fears, they will become... Bats? Its the reverse no? IS this where vampires come from? Where do we place Abraham Lincoln in all this? My mind is full of fuck.

I think the idea is to send Christian Bale as himself, which is a good idea. Dressing him up as Batman would be stupid and insensitive.

They went there to see their hero, so what's so bad about their hero showing up when they're at their worst?
#150 to #121 - restlesss (07/21/2012) [-]
Sure, sending them a hero is a great idea for when they're at their worst. But sending Batman there to "cheer them up" is going to have a more negative effect than a positive one. It would be like if somebody was almost killed by a bear, then you dress as a bear to cheer them up. Where's the logic in that?
User avatar #257 to #150 - kidel (07/21/2012) [-]
WTF man? They went there to see a movie with Batman in it, it wasn't like Batman was the one that shot them either. Like DivderOfZero said.

Actually Psychologically speaking,

They would associate the villain with the shoot up, not the actual Batman.

They would associate the movie theatre, and the actual movie, but not the context of the movie.

So you are actually right he is wrong.
User avatar #305 to #300 - kidel (07/21/2012) [-]
I know that, but then nothing would help. I would also associate him with the tragedy which happened, but it's not like I can't think about him anymore because of that, or even watch a movie with batman in it for that reason. If I were to go to a concert to watch Bruce Springsteen, then a maniac would come and shoot up the whole place, I would love if Bruce Springsteen showed up at the hospital to go see the people who were damaged from it. But in this scenario, it's about kids, it would be nice if he went there for the Kids. Kids would still look at him as their hero or a action figure, and they would far from look at him as something bad. Just because something bad happened at your place once, doesn't mean you can't go there anymore. Associating tragedies with close to everything in the shoot up scenario is wrong in so many ways, yet it sounds bad.

"It would be like if somebody was almost killed by a bear, then you dress as a bear to cheer them up."

No. It would only be like that if they dressed up as the shooter and tried to cheer them up.
