I watch both the british and american top gear shows, our version isn't as good (that's just my opinion) however it introduced me to the british version which is what it was intended to do (spreading the joy of top gear to those who have never heard of it)

i suppose it is like anime in that sense, they butcher it when it airs in states (cough 4kids) but people become aware of it and watch the original japanese versions.

but now amerifags are remaking our great classic the inbetweeners, 1st top gear and skins. they usually never turn out right and just turn out shit for the most part, but it raises i suppose awareness of the superior originals.

I hadn't heard of top gear until I saw the American version. Same with whose line and the office. Now i watch both american and british versions of all these shows. Is it so bad that the American versions are reaching out to new audiences? Pardon me for enjoying television

The office, i think is prob better than the uk version in some ways as its got its own personality and relates to americans in everyday office life, whereas inbetweeners they are trying to emulate it using british humour which most americans dont get.

Its not so much a bad thing that they try to get new audiences, but look at American Psycho, and Let me In, they are copy/paste of the originals, with no attempt at making it their own movie. they did their own version of Life on mars, and i dont think that did too well. We got law and order here in the uk but it has no where near the level of suspense or good storylines.

i didnt mind old Frodo he played the part well, it was quite good i didnt see all of it though, missed bits in the middle. they emulated it pretty well and was largely faithful to the aussie original, with their own style here and there. wasnt wilfred getting another series?

if they put their own spin on it, made it their own style of show, it would probably come out ok, but ITS EXACTLY the same. same names, same setting, they may as well just air the UK version.
