Well when it comes to quality and performance, they are good. But duraility? Complete shit......

i agree. when they're completely new they sound pretty good. after a few days that start to sound tinny. after a week they've got bits falling off here and there. the first thing that ever totally breaks on them is the cord or where the plug meets the cord and when the cord is broken, you're fucked because you can't even use them after that. i've never had a pair last more than 3 weeks of normal use, and that's even stretching the definition of "last".
i don't understand why people buy them, unless of course they want to have to buy a new pair every month

Yeah, here is the order in which they usually break:
1. One bud doesnt play certain intruments (the fuck?)
2. One bud has lower volume
3. Both buds play low volume (my laptop already plays low volume -_-)
4. One bud stops working

By that point I would just throw them away if I didnt already........

yeah i've only used them as backup when i know i won't have anything else for a little while because i know they're going to fuck themselves up if i used them as my normal pair. for a few years, my dumb brother gave me a pair for every gift, so i have a box of like 7 working skullcandys. when my vmoda bassfeqs start to have problems, i take them to radioshack and get the warranty refund, which means i won't have any for 2 or 3 days so i use skullcandys for that time then put them back in the box if they still work.
i don't know if i'm just imagining that i'm the cause but i think vmoda actively fixes reported issues in their buds. the first time i brought them back, the cord came out of the splitter and i freaked out and got a new pair ($6 thanks to the warranty). the next time was just them aging and having problems. same for the next time. the last time i brought them back, the metal mesh inside of it fell out so that was a factor (the 4th time brought back, i believe). when i got my most recent pair which was after i brought them back the last time, the splitter on them was way sturdier and they changed the mesh to something else.

Eh, sometimes some of the more expensive pairs can actually last a few good months, such as the ones in comment #55. Besides, if you have, like, 7 pairs of those, then you might even last longer then a year. Probably the best thing you can do is to avoid shoving them in your pocket in a ball........

my bassfreqs usually last around 3-4 months which is fine with me, and with every pair i use, i wrap around 3 of my fingers into a loop and put them in an altoids tin. even doing that, the skullcandys still practically excel at breaking.

so what kind of earbuds do you use, anyway?

Well actually, I have a pair of Bose headphones, but the volume of those combined with my laptop is terrible.......

i've heard bose's are good, also seinheissers.
if i ever pay serious cash for serious headphones/buds, i'm going to go $900 for logitech ultiimate ears. my brother has a pair and he says they're incredible. they form-fit them perfectly to your ears and have some of the highest quality components on the market. also supposedly the noise cancellation on them is second only to being deaf, according to him.

Hmm, could I ask you a question? Do you know of a pair of headphones around $50ish that are also earbuds that dont break all the fucking time? Cause there seems to always be something.......

ahm... the only pair i've had around that price range is my bassfreqs and like i said, they usually last around 3-4 months and they're $40. an upside of the radioshack warranty though is that it's about 7 bucks, so figuring with some math you would pay the $40 for the first pair, so by the time you've returned them 5 times and had 6 pairs total, you will have only payed the full price of 2 pairs, which is about $80. i think they're pretty good and they have nice clarity. the only downside is they have boosted bass but you can compensate with your computers' equalizer

i think i've gotten 5 pairs by now so when this pair breaks down, i might try another brand and see what i think about other earbuds. sorry, i'm not much help with this but i don't have much experience with a wide array of earbuds
