If the u.s. army wasnt over in the middle east, the taliban would be much stronger. think about it this way, these animals in the middle east (al quaeeda, not all middle eastern people) will always kill people, there is no reasoning with them, the military is there trying to prevent them from spreading attacks. trust me, it looks bad right now, but if no one was over there trying to contain them it would be much worse in the future. Not justifying civilian casualties, there will always be civilian casualties in a war. I personally support NATO involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, and for exactly those reasons. We should fight extremist groups, especially when they are as influential as they are in the middle east. However, the reason as to why America started those wars in the first place was to fight terror, as a direct response to 911. The amount of dead civilian Americans and the amount of dead middle easterns are extremely out of proportion. Nothing can justify this. They are fighting a war to keep America safe, not caring about the consequences as long as it is not Americans paying the price.

The fact that American soldiers are horrible at peace keeping missions, to the point of making matters worse, doesn't help. American soldiers are hated where ever they go. Such missions should be carried out by soldiers who are trained to keep the peace and improve the life of the local population, not to fight an all-out-war.

This is a lesson they should have learned in the Vietnam war, but they didn't, and now innocent civilians are paying the price.

and yes we did go to the middle east after 9/11 for basically revenge, but we have stayed there for so long because of these groups

i agree that there are definitely more middle eastern civilian deaths than American, but that's because the fight is on Afghan and Iraqi soil, it is extremely hard to target extremist groups. Im not racist but can you tell the difference between a muslim and a muslim extremist, no they look exactly the same. It really is hard to explain, if the u.s. wasnt in the middle east, maybe less civilians would be killed, but also there might be more extremist attacks on America or other "devil" nations. But on the other hand, while they are there, citizens of the middle east are getting killed. So either we can sit back and let the extremist do their thing or we can fight them, the way i look at it, people are going to die either way, i would rather them die in a successful mission in taking out an extremist group, then for no reason in a bombing. It sounds like I'm very shallow but honestly these terrorists are horrible people that need to be stopped, there is no reasoning with them. Like telling a lion to be a vegetarian, the lion isnt going to listen to you he's going to do what he has been raised to do. they are fighting for something they believe is right, there is no peace in the middle east, thats all im saying

let there be a chance that Americans may die in another terrorist attack. This could be prevented by the countermeasures that are being used anyways

choice two
start two wars that kill millions of non-American civilians.

They have no right to have that fight on foreign soil. And because American soldiers are cruel and incompetent, they will go through a new Vietnam. Maybe this time they will learn their lesson.
