Yes, barter determines how much you have to pay for items and how high you can sell things.

I've never put shit into barter. It always seemed just pointless.

Doesn't work as well in New Vegas. The caravans are all unnamed randomly spawning NPC's. You can only loot their Brahmin for meat, and it's rare they have anything more than some caps and a 10mm.

I shoot'em anyway though, because of reasons.

As low as your barter must be, you're getting crap for your stuff anyways. A +20 to your barter skill will significantly increase the amount of caps you get when you sell and make the things you're buying a whole lot cheaper. I agree it's usually not priority, but it proves to be worth it when you're trying to buy stimpacks or repair weapons/armor. So far my price on stimpacks is down to about 25 caps compared to 40.

Do you have 100 barter?

No, I have mine around 50, more or less, so far and I'm level 12.

I have mine at 12, and It keeps me from only using vendors for ammo and weapons. I like the idea of scrounging the wastes for weapons and ammunition.

It's still nice to not pay twice the value of something. And it's really nice when your aid supply is running out and you can buy more than 1 stimpack and some rad away without having to sell half your stuff.

I've finished the game multiple times, but on this character, I've only done Operation: Anchorage, and started Point lookout and Broken Steel.

You go to help a man free his friends from a giant slave camp. You do this by working your way up the ranks of the slave camp. I wont give away the rest, though. You should just play it and find out yourself.

The Pitt is my favorite, but it's a whole lot of personal preference.

Me either. I bought back both, and decided to start over on both. Got a bit bored with 3, so switched to nv, and am really immersed in it.

How far did you get in 3 before you switched? My boyfriend told me how the whole thing ends so there aren't any more possible spoilers

I'm usually the same way. I just find it so hard to go back to the weird camera angles and such a different feel. I haven't played either of them since I was introduced to Fallout or Skyrim though,

I can't even finish the first one. I don't have a high enough level to kill that boss that is only affected by magic.

Fallout/Skyrim: yes. But I play other things like Kingdom Hearts on ps2 and pokemon and such

Grab anything you can sell,strip down the endless number of raiders that habit the wastelands and steal. Don't worry about karma, its pretty easy to raise. Also always do side quests, as insignificant as they may seem ,they might pay in caps or sometimes with perks.

Also another unrelated tip, save before going on a killing spree or stealing.

Barter. It seems like one of the lesser skills to add to, but the extra caps are very nice to have, especially when you're trying to start out. I'm a level 12 and I didn't start adding to my barter til about maybe 7 and now I'm trying to make up for it.

best bet to do is just wait with the main quests and explore a bit till like Lv 8 or 10 then start a bunch of side quests to get a place to buy.. ( at this point you should have enough caps if not almost have enough caps to purchase everything for your place )

if you notice a lot of merchants don't have enough caps after selling a bunch of stuff to multi places ( ie : rivet, paradise falls, megaton, tower { don't remember the first part of the tower name } ) just trade extra items for stimpaks, ammo, armour & guns if you need to repair some equipment.

pick up everything, scavenge a lot, sell all the random stuff you picked up, and do random side quests.

don't pay him. get the lady killer perk and talk to nova for his terminal password. or just go in the back room and hack his terminal.

he sold other things as well so its not just the magazine

but he is buying enough thinks to make that cost. if you look at the arrow, the caps are going to the dealer
