They actually are. It costs more to make pennies then they are worth.

i am going to collect and save as many pennies as possible right now, because it costs more to make a penny than one cent, and soon they will discontinue it. In the distant future, since it was discontinued, there will be many fewer pennies in existence than other coins, and since their rarity will increase, so will the cost. i plan on passing down my collected pennies to my children, then grandchildren, and so on, until pennies are merely a legend. selling these pennies to deranged collectors will yield tons of monies, and so my great great great grandchildren (or something of the sort) will be some of the wealthiest people in the world.

Wow, that was original.
Did you come up with it yourself, or did someone write it for you?

They should just get rid of pennies and follow Canada's example of just dropping penny production. It's really pointless and it costs more to make them then they are worth.

If we got rid of pennies, then tax in all states would either have to drop down to 5% or go up to 10%, and there's no way the government would drop it to 5% so that would make everything a lot more expensive. Go pennies!

You're an idiot. Taxes wouldn't change, just the results would be rounded off to the nearest 5 cents

back in may canada actually stopped making pennies.

the nickle should be with the penny too, seeing as both of them cost more to make than what they're worth

false ... pennies account for a lot of the money companies make, although they don'd take all of the penny ... yeah you're right T-T
