Everything you said is true but consider this, has any other species achieved global dominance through the use of tools and by using tools have the potential to completely destroy the planet on which we live? That sort of power is not something any species in the past has achieved. There is almost certainly life elsewhere in the galaxy and maybe to them we are nothing special, but what I'm saying is as far as Earth is concerned we are very special and we have the potential to stay around for a very long time. That is, of course, assuming we don't blow ourselves up.
