So they were going to leave America, a highly conservative country, for Canada, a highly liberal country.

Makes perfect sense.

Well Harper is the Prime Minister of Canada.
His party is the Conservative Party.
The Opposition of Harper is Thomas Mulcaire who is a Socialist from the New Democratic Party.
Then there is the Liberal Party lead by whoever is leading them as they are changing every years. They are 3rd and not even the official opposition.
Canada used to be a Liberal country but the Liberal party has a past of corruption which is not really appreciated, therefore, they do not get as many votes as before.
Also, most of Canada is Conservative (pretty much the english part of Canada) and as always the Quebec is different as the others from the country with their political view (I am from Quebec in fact).

But if there was a joke behind what you said and you knew Canada was conservative than I am really sorry for not getting it

Peace out.

The conservatives may have a majority government but they only got 40% of the votes. The reason is because the other votes were spread out over 3 other parties (4 in Quebec). So even though the Conservatives are in charge doesn't mean Canada is a conservative country. Then as was already stated below is that the Conservatives are a left wing party, they are simply more right wing then the Liberals or NDP. In fact the NDP is the most left wing party of the 4 major parties of Canada (I'm ignoring the Greens as they only have 1 seat in parliament). So conservatives have majority without a majority of the country supporting them, NDP are official opposition and are more left wing then the Liberals.

What you fail to realize is that Canadian Conservatives are even more left wing than American Democrats. Other than that, I see you know your shit.

Also, you forgot about the Green Party, but who doesn't, as of now they are rather inconsequential.

I understand that American Democrats of USA are really right wing but I fail to understand how Harper's party can be more left wing because in fact, the Canadian Conservatives are pretty much wannabes of USA's Democrats (which is not a good thing at all tbh). They are different from each others on certain point and I mean there are things that Harper has done/said that show ho he is more right wing that the American Democrats.

I'm not saying that I agree with American Democrats, What I'm saying is on a scale, most if not all major Canadian parties aside from the Bloc Quebecois is more Left Wing than any major Canadian parties.

America, a highly conservative country? You'll have to elaborate on that.

America has 2 major political parties, the Republicans and the Democrats. It is common knowledge that the Republicans are a right wing party, but what is less know is that the Democrats are as well. The Democrats are simply more left then the Republicans but are still a right wing party (from the mouth of my World Issues teacher).

...What? How are the Democrats as right-wing as Republicans?
User avatar #460 to #458 - TheCanadianPatriot (07/04/2012) [-]
I did not say they were AS right wing but they are none the less a right wing party. They are just more towards the left then the Republicans.

I don't actually have a response to that, I just figured that this picture would fit better than your gorilla.
