I believe that we don't know enough about the universe at this point to come to a satisfactory conclusion.

Statistically, based off of the amount of stars in the galaxy, and how many of those would have Earth-like planets that could sustain life, there has to be at least one (probably far more) instance of intelligent life aside from out own.
