It's not a speaker man, it's more like sound processor or board if you will. Kinda like how if you bash your keyboard when the computer's just starting up, you'll hear clicks and beeps.

It may work like a speaker but it sure won't do a good job. I mean, if you like your music being turned into NES tunes that's fine and dandy, but for listening purposes I can't imagine it working out well.

this is true about the quality. also i think i found the speaker, here is the motherboard of an ipod classic:

the part number is 4R7 and its in the bottom right hand corner.
